  • I am from NZ, so I eat Pic's regularly in both NZ and in the UK; it tastes the same. For a while the 1kg jars that was I getting from Amazon (all from the same batch) did seem a bit off (perhaps not stored properly or a bit old, very separated and hard to mix). Lately the stuff from Amazon has been fine.

  • It used to be that all the peanuts were from Australia. It is only very recently they have been also been using peanuts from Zambia (because of drought affecting supply from Australia). So, up until recently, the CO2 from shipping peanuts to NZ for processing would be quite low. The shipping to the UK, is more of an issue.

    Calculating these things is not that easy without a detailed knowledge of the whole supply chain. Pip and Nut, for example, get their peanuts from Argentina, so (when Pic's is using only peanuts from Australia) the total shipping distances probably are not that different (not sure about the volume - one is shipping peanuts, the other squashed peanuts in jars).

  • Props to Asda for doing an own-brand that is just 100% peanuts. Not the best I've ever tasted, but good to be dodging added nonsense.

  • Used to be all about Meridian until I tried Pip & Nut crunchy. Tis the bollocks.

  • I haven't told Radcliffe and Maconie of one of my favourite recent sandwich filling discoveries, but if I did it would be peanut butter, cheese and cucumber, on home made wholemeal bread.

    And to answer a question a few pages back (this thread is moving at a ridiculous pace) I tried PB in porridge for the first time today. I'm not sure it will overtake my marmalade, salt and maple syrup phase but I'm sure I'll have it again at some point.

  • Recently I mentioned, much to a friend’s shock, that I go through 2kgs of Pip & Nut smooth peanut butter every 5 weeks. So about 400g per week.

    I think their shock is misplaced.

    So let’s get some peanut butter per week data going in here.

  • I have tried PB in porridge just now (with almond milk, banana and maple syrup) having raised the question upthread.

    It is good. Very, very good.

  • Reckon I'm probably about 300 or 400g/week on average. I usually have 2 jars on the go in parallel- something decent for toast/apple/eating straight from the jar when waiting for the kettle to boil, and then cheap stuff for cooking with

  • I eat these, depending on stock availability.

    Being organic is neither hear nor there, given the fluffy vagueness of the label, but they are palm oil / bulking agent, and no added sugar. The second is no added salt, which is nice.

    They're mostly used for PB&J on toast, which I eat probably too much of.

    Otherwise, I think the stuff is disgusting.

    I also have a few different Meridian nut butters, in small jars, for the odd pudding / sweet dish.

  • When I did a week on t he https://www.thighsofsteel.com/ ride a few years ago we were fuelled by porridge and 1kg tubs of Meridian, donated by whole food shops.

    Every morning we’d take it in turns to cook porridge, look out the huge tubs of peanut butter and jam, prep coffee for the campsite etc.

    I think I ate my body weight of it during that week!

  • Glad to hear it! A big spoonful of peanut butter in porridge every morning is my ritual. Pumpkin, chia and linseeds plus some frozen blueberries or raisins.

    Dates dipped in peanut butter is another winner. As is PB on toast with a sprinkle of good quality chilli flakes.

  • They're pretty gross. Sweetended PB in chocolate. I mean, I'd eat them if they were in front of me :)

    PB versions of M&Ms are much better.
