For anyone that cares, it was indeed possible to do my fork seals without pulling the coils out.
Only issue I had was that the nut at the bottom of the leg on the damper side didn't want to screw back on, the threaded end of the damper was just turning inside the fork. I don't know how you're meant to do it or if having the spring out would mean you can compress the cartridge and get a bit of resistance or something but I eventually managed to get it on a couple threads and use a small spanner under the nut to lever the rod up into the taper fit so it wasn't just spinning.
