• From what I remember of my 2005 Vanilla 32, the spring was easy to remove. Unscrew the top cap and out it pops

    It was the other side that was a pain to open, as it had all the fiddly adjustment dials with tiny ball bearings

  • I probably have a suitable socket but I’ve heard it’s real easy to damage the cap. There’ll only be a cool on the side with preload? No coil at all on the damping side? I wasn’t sure if there was a cool in there too or not. If no coil and damping is working ok then I don’t really need to interfere with that side unless i want to put the oil in from the top.

  • Definitely use a flat faced socket if you can, as there's not much material there to get hold of

    Should be a spring both sides, but the primary one ( that you swap for your weight ) is under the preload adjuster
