The Royce ti BB was actually a replacement for a Royce steel one which broke. Descending Death Hill past Brands Hatch in a club evening 10 with a chainset dangling from my Cinelli M71 is not something I will forget easily! I made it clear to their MD that it was about to become bad publicity and he instantly replaced steel with ti (he blamed crystallized metal if I remember correctly). I sold that bike in 85 for house deposit money and still wish I hadn't.
The current one has probably done 20,000 miles without a murmur, on 4 Continents, whilst being ridden by 1 incontinent.
