I still have a Royce ti BB in a bike from about 2004
In 2004, Shimano launched 7800 with HT2. I'm not sure why anybody would have wanted to pay more for square taper than whatever a UN55 costs once that happened.
I still have a CQP Ti BB from 1993, it's technically a superior design to Royce, but still just a square taper axle in industrial cartridge bearings. Since they didn't exist in 1982, I'll concede that there might have been some value in getting the Royce back then, especially if you'd just snapped your Gen1 Super Record 🙂
was there any value in their claims beyond bling?
Royce have always been a jewellery business rather than a performance bike brand, but now they're a retro style brand too. Their product design, web site and, judging by the pricing, production methods are all firmly stuck in the 20th Century. I never thought they had anything of interest to me in the 90s, and they certainly don't now that they're more than two decades behind the times.
I have more chance of becoming Pope than shifting 56x12-17. I still have a Royce ti BB in a bike from about 2004, it seems faultless to me, but what do I know?
