I am thinking about getting the Selcof jack Woodheads handlebars on my bike and saw you had purhcased them in the past. Just wondering what you thought? I notice that at the following link, it lists the reach as 145MM!! Is that really right!? If possible, would you be able to measure the reach for me. If this is true, I will need to get a shorter stem I think but I assume this is a typo. I havent usually seen a reach of longer than 85MM.

PS I have asked PX but the guy I was speaking to wasn't in the warehouse due to Covid so couldn't check. I am very keen to get flat handlebars, but the reach on the ones they offer with the bke I want seem to have a massive reach listed on the web page, that I just can't believe is true.

Hah no. Just grooves.

They continue to be good beater bars for my fixed for less than a tenner, put it that way.

They do look pretty long

DOes the extra 60MM of reach mean that the hoods will be 60MM further forward, or does it not quite work like that?

I'm not sure how to measure it exactly. Looks more like ~115mm according to my tape measure but I'm not sure how reliable that is.

Thanks so much for checking! So, reach is measures from the middle of the top tube to the center of the end of the drop, as per the image here. If you could check that you would be a start!!!

Going to take the plunge I think. Easy enough to get a shorter stem if needed.

How come you’ve settled on this particular bar?

It is the only flat top bar that Planet X offer on the bike.

But on a shorter bar, the brake lever hoods provide a smooth transition into the tops, extending the flat section. Wouldn't this be adequate? And leaves you in control of the brakes all the time

Thanks a lot for this @PhilDAS. I would have thought that the flat section would be longer on a longer handlebar a the hoods would be attached a bit further away.

The standard overall reach on my current bike is a bit short and I am looking to get a bit more aero. Having these would increase my reach by 4cm, which if too much I can raise the handlbars a bit.
