  • Yeah, got it off and had a peek from the inside and it's one of the older cotton carcass ones so both binned.

Stripped and refurbed a Mercian KoM for the outlaw sister so don't want her losing her face and blaming me. Idiot that sold her the bike mis-measured the top tube by an inch too so now unsure if it will fit her after putting in the work :(

Think it would have been less risky if it was a nylon carcass?

  • Think it would have been less risky if it was a nylon carcass?

Nylon tends to be more durable, but that doesn't help once the rubber is that fucked.

  • I'm trying to contact a member on here who was active for a few years, as far as I can tell, using one of those automatically generated usernames i.e. 'userXXXX'.

When I visit his profile page, by clicking on 'userXXXX', I see that he was last active in April 2020 and has a three digit post count. However when clicking on the number of his posts in order to see his last one, only 1 post shows up and that one was from a few years back. Odd.

Does this mean that he's changed his handle?
If so, will he receive PM's sent to 'userXXXX' despite having a new username?

  • Is there a service anywhere that will pick up and deliver a non-packaged bike? I’ve seen a bike I’m after on PinkBike and the guy doesn’t want to post and doesn’t have anything to box it up with. So a traditional courier type thing (and I can find loads offering this service) where I organise someone to go pick up the boxed bike wouldn’t work. I’d essentially need someone to go pick up the bike in its fully built form, box it and then deliver it to me. All this is obviously complicated by social distancing and don’t want to put anyone in an awkward position. Cheers!

  • Is it in London? Are you in London?

Perhaps it's possible to use Pedal Me and cargo bikes to carry another bike?

  • I don't know if there is but you could see if he lives near a bike shop he could drop it to and you could ask them to do the packing? I did this once when buying a frame from america

  • May be an idea to say where you are and where the bike is. Someone may do it as a regular journey.

  • Is there a service anywhere that will pick up and deliver a non-packaged bike?

Same day couriers will do this (and I have), but very spendy if there's a lot of distance involved

  • PMs count as posts in that counter.

they wil l collect and pack you bike, not sure how that service is operating atm

  • I just cleaned out the bearings in my CK headset with some drive chain cleaner and a toothbrush, and flushed with Muc Off Bike Protector, repacked with lots of grease and re-assembled the fork. I don't have an air compressor so used a new microfibre cloth to gently dry before packing in the grease.

It still feels gritty, perhaps worse than before i started (doh!). Did I not clean the bearings out properly or not use enough grease?

  • Balls and races could be too far gone.

  • Cheapest / safest way to pack drop handlebars for postage? Would rather not out them in a huge box each time.

  • bubble wrap then in postage bag

  • True, I hadn't though of that. That's a possible explanation and he could have only posted publicly on the forum once and sent the rest of the almost 200 posts as DMs.

@Velocio is that the case here?

  • Yes... it is :)

I can say that the user uses Hotmail, and does receive notifications... so you're not going to do better than having PM'd him on here and waiting.

  • Well, as comments, I mean. Did you mean the "conversations" or comments counter?

  • Thanks! All I wanted to know was if I'd be able to contact him via DMs and now I do.

@frankenbike I was referring to the comment counter and you basically figured it out. Thanks for the insight.

  • Some spoke tensioning advice needed for a set of EDCO Umbrail wheels.

I changed a spoke on both the front and rear wheel using 'normal' nipples which can be tightened with a (modified) screwdriver. At the spot where the new spokes are put in the rim is straight, but the wheels need some truing to get the last mm of wobble out...

Who can tell me what tool I need to put through the spoke hole to get to the standard nipples in the EDCO wheel?

EDIT - Park Tool SW15 should do the job according to a pro wheelbuilder that responded to my insta post. Have a nice weekend all

  • Put a listing on Shiply or uship-someone with van space will generally do it as a blanket wrap job for about a hundred quid if it's city to city. Initial bids are always c. 200 but then go down over a day or so.

Paisley Freight don't actually pack bikes-they send a box in the post the day before to be packed then collected.

  • Look at these 18c bad boys: rubber ice skates!

  • I’ve used Nimber in the past and been very happy with the service- don’t know what the status of them is post covid19 lockdown

  • Fitted a miche 11 speed cassette to fulcrum freehub. Put the wheel back into the frame and the freehub won't turn, looks like it is touching the dropout. I fitted another wheel with 11 speed shimano to test out and fits fine.
    Any ideas?
