  • Are there any universal plywood or similar front crates for drop-front long john style bikes? I’m feeling like I’m not actually going to get around to building one until it’s too late and maybe I should just buy one. What’s out there? From memory, I think the load area is 850mm long so it’s a teeny bit longer than a Bullitt.

  • Not yet. I gave London Green Cycles a ring and their advice was to use a Bakfiets crate and adapt it slightly. They stock both my bike and Bakfiets. He went and measured one and said it would go on. The only issue is the Bakfiets steerer tubes are angled back whereas mine is vertical. Bakfiets crates are ~£300 which is actually pretty good value.

The pros of using that is the ability to use Bakfiets accessories and the general hardiness of the Bakfiets crates. Cons I guess is it might look a bit like it's just got a crate off another bike screwed onto it.
