I find Manns (and other water based polyurethane stuff) gives a bit of a plasticky finish.
Fiddies Clear Glaze is my go-to hard wearing, waterproof wood finish. Behaves like Osmo when applying, it soaks in like an oil rather than sitting on top like the Manns. Looks like an Osmo finish when it’s done too, but is much more robust.

@Bobbo, I’m currently in the queue to buy a belt sander.
@stevo_com some water based satin varnish. Needs something pretty heavy duty as it will be in constant use.
@tbc there are plenty of gaps. Sawdust and super glue will do the trick. Will do that when it’s flat.
@lynx I’m definitely nearing the end of my patience at the moment. Three solid days of work so far!
