@stevo_com some water based satin varnish. Needs something pretty heavy duty as it will be in constant use.
@tbc there are plenty of gaps. Sawdust and super glue will do the trick. Will do that when it’s flat.

The Manns varnish from Wood Finishes Direct is good. I've used their water-based floor varnish which is obviously made to be hard-wearing.

Why superglue over wood glue?
