I don't understand why they didn't arrive at ISIS directly
Octalink was a Shimano proprietary product. ISIS was a response from a few other players to offer a similar axle without paying licensing fees. Shimano continued to produce Octalink up to Claris 2400 at least, long after ISIS was abandoned as a mainstream product.
Shimano got it wrong in v1 in terms of MTB use; while the short splines are OK for pedalling forces, they tend to strip out the cranks when people land jumps

I'm not sure if it was originally flat, but it's concave now
Oops. You were going some to squash that while threading in the extractor ring, which requires a tightening torque of 12Nm and should spin in by hand until it abuts the bottom of the counterbore.

I'm not an expert on Octalink by any means, however, so someone else may have some more detailed advice.
'Yeah, whatever. You talk the talk but don't walk the walk.'

Thank you for the invite down a rabbit hole.I'll get out the measuring devices tomorrow.

Ha,
if we ever met you'ld soon realise I'm far too square for ink.
I only noticed the background when I uploaded the pictures.
I've kept the crank arms in a cotton bag I was given by the Wera stand at a trade show. -

It's ironic. I've been criticised in the past, with some justification I'd admit, for being an arrogant know-it-all. Being castigated for admitting I'm not omniscient at least has novelty value.

Thank you for the invite down a rabbit hole.
That's just the start. There's still BB30, PF30, BB90, BBright, BB30a and T47 left... To name but a few.

Who makes the least shit consumer printers these days?

Laser or inkjet?
For text docs or pretty photos?
Different media or just bog standard A4?
Need a scanner function too?I hate waiting for things and sometimes need to print hundreds of pages at a time so got a laser (Samsung (though now owned by HP who seem to have bought out everyone apart from Canon). It's fast, accurate, easy to install and use, Bluetooth and cloud options, offers relatively good support and ease in sourcing original toner (never trusted third party stuff - much to the dismay of my wallet).

consumer printers
Which method? Epson ink jets seem solid and the drivers/software are good, which seems to be where others can be annoying even when the hardware is sound.

Not sure about inkjet these days (seem like a massive waste if money imo) but brothers are basically killing in the home lasers. Cheap, good drivers, reliable.
Ten years ago HP were great but they've been going downhill for a while now. -

Laserjet that keeps clogging currently driving me nuts

Ta. Just looking for an everyday workhorse for a4 print - not printing photos or high detail stuff.

So. Flour.
Where the fuck does one get any these days? Supermarkets round my way are and have been clean out for a while. At least whenever I go, which is not all that often.
Would also be interested in buying a larger quantity of plain white / strong white flour at once - I've heard things like 10kg bags exist, though I've never seen one. Any tips?

All my local shops are stocked fine with flour. Have you tried yours?
Discover the joys of local shops over supermarkets and never look back.
Alternatively, go to the bread thread and blackmail someone there. Just not @dancing james. He has a chainsaw.
I gound a thick washer that must've been between the bolt and extraction cap. I'm not sure if it was originally flat, but it's concave now. The one in the top picture seems flat, which leads me to believe I've messed up somewhere.
That's reassuring to know that I can unscrew the bolt and replace it when the new one comes. Thank you!
