Yes, that began to occur to me after posting. Also wondered whether a lack of venues would be an issue. I’m guessing that councils and private landowners have either no enthusiasm or capacity to provide permission for some local bike races to happen in the current climate.
Just saddened because I was hoping cx was my light at the end of the tunnel (although I don’t race central league so that light is merely dimmed rather than extinguished).

That's exactly it. Venues and landowners make it a nightmare. I've stepped aside from organising after 10 years due to having to cancel in two out of the last three years because of the near impossibility of finding a venue (in London). The hassle is worth it when a great day happens but if it doesn't then it is galling

Because CX races are the biggest ballache to organise plus refunds of cancelled entries actually cost the organiser money. It would be very disheartening to put in the early work for nothing.
