I really don't wanna go back to the office...

China casually announced that the deaths in Wuhan were actually 50% higher than previously announced, so it's safe to assume that they are many times higher than that in real life.

Yeah. The police guys fishing bod...I mean sunken treasure from the canal the other week were the same. They could be 2m apart but why bother when you are going to share a van and a dressing room. Same goes for medical staff, bin men, construction guys, pretty much anyone delivering front line stuff with other people.
It’s a huge headfuck for them

Watching the news coverage of the 8pm Thursday clap for the NHS/carers, am I alone in thinking that each week they seem to feature streets where the inhabitants are all disregarding the 2m social distancing rule? Seems a bit counter-intuative if its encouraging neighbours with front doors in close proximity to linger together each week.
I get the sentiment and our family take to the doorstep for a few minutes of furious appreciation each Thursday (I definitely didn't vote Tory BTW) but I worry that by thanking the front line staff many are inadvertently putting more pressure on the system. At least based on the (most likely non representative) sample shown on TV news.

Well if I’d known the clap for the nhs thing would allow me to hang about in groups I’d probably have been more on board with it

I still find the clapping mawkish. It feels very performative and ritualistic.

OK so reading that twitter thread, I'm not alone. Thanks for sharing.

That's mental isn't it? People mean well, but ffs, think about it for one second.

I'm really suffering from quarantine brain. Convinced myself that the increase was over 100% because I misread the BBC headline.

Absolutely. With my psychology head on I guess it is providing people with something they can feel like they're 'doing' in a time when they're largely helpless. With my other head on I just think it's a bunch of Tories failing to see the irony.

Andy wtf? In these uncertain times changing your avatar is a step too far!

What about the non-tories who want key workers who live nearby to know we give a shit?

No cases yet in my local area, the biggest gripe is that the recycling is no longer collected and the recycling centers are closed.
And dog poo. Somebody has been making small wooden signs with the text "is this your dog poo?" and putting them next to turds in the park.
New skill learning... ;)

It's not for me I have to say.
It does cheer some NHS workers up so I'm not overly cynical about it either, just not for me.

I should add - I'm a keyworker (teacher).

Dog had a wee this morning, a passing cyclist screamed at me to pick it up. Then turned round and passed again, still shouting. Then turned and passed again, still shouting. Invited brave boy to come and examine the non-existent turd, which he declined.
Rapha-clad S-Works rider - expect no better from pricks like that.

Dealing with other people: You just can't win sometimes.
Guys profile is indeed already extra "antisocial type prejudging" points, like spotting a Seat Leon st leaking shitty dance music with an under 30 driver.
Not a local I guess?

NI deaths up around 1/3rd as they have added suspected covid19 deaths to the total.

How sad. Do you extend your cynicism to the children’s rainbow art and free gig tickets for NHS workers?
Obviously you realise a Twitter storm around that Westminster bridge footage isn’t representative of what happens across the entire country.

If it eases people's psychological suffering and feelings of hopelessness then they're free to do what they want. I just hope all those people go and vote for a party which properly supports keyworkers at the next election. If they don't then it'll have all been a meaningless gesture.

it's ok to be positive about charitable acts while simultaneously acknowledging that the need for charity is directly traceable to a government run by people who have nothing but naked contempt for the poor and vulnerable.
hope that helps.

I agree.
My mate said that nurses are all working in the same room as well. Fortunately a friend of a friend said when his house was burning down firefighters were observing social distancing. Enforcing a one in one out policy, his house was ruined but good to see.
