First attempt at some Vegan doughnuts last night. Not perfect but happy with them for a first go and know what I plan to change next time around. Recipe called for aquafaba but didn't have any to hand so subbed for flax eggs, didn't grind them enough so some seeds floating around but they look to have worked as a sub so I can correct that next time. The recipe was also to be fried but don't fancy messing around with boiling oil at the moment so used my donut tray and baked in the oven. A bit doughy because of this I think but taste nice and still have some other texture to them so looking forward to experimenting some more.

Loads of wild garlic round here, just been using it in salads - got a recipe for the pesto?

I made this one and it is delicious: https://theveganlarder.com/wild-garlic-pesto-foraged-and-vegan/

Excellent, thanks - just need to pick up some nutritional yeast and we're good to go!

The recipe I half followed uses all the same ingredients as the one Cazakstan posted but with the addition of a bit of lemon juice which I think added to it. I wouldn't stick too rigidly to the quantities, you'll know when it's right.
If you've not made it before, rest assured that it's not as brutally garlicy once it's been cooked through with pasta. I had a tiny bit raw whilst we were making it and was tasting garlic for the rest of the day, had a massive bowl of it once cooked and was fine! -

These look great. Will definitely give them a go as well. Looking for a good solid base donut to then mess around with glazes and stuff.

Made seitan with this recipe, letting most of it rest for 24 hours as suggested but the little bit I fried up and tried was good! Thanks. Winged it slightly due to only being able to get my hands on firm tofu, rather than silken and having to add a bit of extra oil/water so that it was moist enough.

ha! i did exactly the same with the tofu - will have to try it again with silken once i can get out and find some again

I'm so glad you posted this. I used to follow her blog years ago and just forgot about it somehow. Every single single thing on that site looks sooo good!!

Just noticed you posting in this thread, are you vegan now?

Bloody noob.

A bit late as all the mayo talk was on the last page, however Follow Your Heart Vegenaise is so much better than the competion.
Shame they can't seem to make inroads into the supermarkets. The Leon mayo is everywhere now and it's shite. -

Cut out dairy (and other stuff I guess) when we got back to London.

The nandos periperi one is nice, but also nandos get through a fair amount of chickens, so not something I'm going to make a habit of buying.

Ooh, those new biscoff cream jobbies are pretty fucking good.

It's my girlfriend's 30th coming up and I want to get her a cake. Is there anywhere that does vegan cake off the shelf? I'm shit at baking so I guess the alternative is getting a local bakery to knock one up especially, there's a good one here in Leeds but I've already spanked way too much on her present so want to keep costs down!

Tesco (and possibly other chain supermarkets) normally have some vegan cakes in the Gluten Free/Free From section. I remember them being quite small though if you're after something for more than 2-4 people.

Cheers, will have a look next time I'm at the supermarket. It's the 3rd of May so doesn't look like it'll be a huge party....

I don't know if any of these are open at the moment, but some seem to be able to do takeaway and/or deliver. It's hard to tell from most sites, though, as most don't have COVID-19 updates.
Ruby's still seems to be open for on-line orders:
https://rubysoflondon.com/product-category/cakes/
Their main outlet seems to be Greenwich Market, which I'd guess like all council-run markets must be closed at the moment.
The Hummingbird Bakery does vegan cakes, and although the latest blog post says it's still open for takeaways, elsewhere on the site it seems to suggest that it isn't--perhaps best to give them a bell:
https://hummingbirdbakery.com/search?q=vegan
The Canvas usually does cakes, but I'm not sure they're doing anything at the moment--they say you can order things off the menu, but cakes don't seem to be on the menu (the only one they have on-line is the December 2019 menu):
https://www.thecanvascafe.org/vegan-cafe
This says it's closed, but there's a phone number:

Thanks for the suggestions all! I'm actually leaning towards having a punt at making one myself so suggestions for a fool proof vegan sponge would be appreciated!
My thinking is that effort put into cake > quality of cake (hopefully).
Shame about the orange one peeking through and spoiling everything.
