how would one check alignment of the frame its self?

There's a couple tools for it. A decent LBS should have them.

ok nice.
Cranks are off now so moving spacers about. But I do realise moving the whole lot outboard will bring other issues like q factor and possible clearance issue with nds crank arm.

Its driving me nuts. Prime time to get out on the back roads right now...
