  • @nefarious Random question - did you do the half without any water? I want to do a half and might do a similar tactic, driving halfway before to stash a drink.
I got into running 1-2 months to train for my first half which has been cancelled. Been doing 3 runs (5/10/15km) each week since lockdown and I finish 15km fine, not thirsty at all and like I could carry on. I should really do a few 18-20kms on a Sunday first but if I am at 18k I will want to carry on.

  • It was roasting, 21c, and I expected to struggle, so I had a race vest with 500ml water and 500ml electrolyte mix, and with some gels and bars too. It was on trails for 90%, so a bit slower going than a road half.

I’m very glad I had food and drink in excess, my body isn’t back in the rhythm of running, and I’d simply have run out of beans otherwise. For example, when I was in good shape, I’d take a gel or two for a road half in training (assuming it was cool temperature wise).
