In one advisory paragraph - two absolutely conflicting pieces of info. Keep them in ... but none have transmitted the disease.
Thanks for that “vets”.

There hasn't been a single case that they know about more like.
I'm keeping away from cats at the moment.

Given that SARS-CoV was shown to move from Bats to Civets and other species it seems plausible that SARS-CoV-2 could be passed to and from cats.

Keep in mind our way of life is quite different from many other countries. In the bigger cities people share spaces a lot, but the bulk of swedes live in the country side where we have pretty limited contact with others. No restaurant culture to talk about, no pubs, not many concerts to see, etc etc.
I think we're pretty isolated to start off with. Normally it sucks, but pretty handy during a pandemic

As long as the cat is properly cooked-through (juices run clear etc.) I can’t see that it poses a risk

Covid 19 coronavirus: Bodies 'likely' to be temporarily buried in New York parks

Wouldn't refrigeration or freezer trucks be a better temp solution than putting bodies in the ground?
-
• #9837
Why?
There's a cost to running those.
Dig hole/burn. -

There are graveyards in Belfast where some soil still can never be disturbed as people that had an unknown but deathly disease got buried there... 100s of years ago.
Let's hope they cremate people...which is also problematic as in some religions it is seen as not allowed etc. and others rather be buried, but this is sorta serious.

For the data heads: why have the government used a logarithmic scale on the global deaths graph they have shown in the last couple of briefings?
-
• #9840
They were doing that a week or so ago but that was when deaths in the city were 1000 or something
https://www.marketwatch.com/story/fema-is-sending-85-refrigerated-trucks-to-new-york-city-to-serve-as-temporary-morgues-2020-04-01Now they're up to over 4000 in just NY

I heard, from well placed source, there are plans to use Guildford ice rink for storage of bodies. It’s an unpleasant thought but makes some sense.
There must be local major incident plans which already have infrastructure identified for mass casualties/deaths. -

Pretty clear to me Sweden is having a crack at the herd immunity approach. Should be an interesting experiment, shame me and the fam will be the guinea pigs. I’ve seen the chart for number of ICU beds per capita in Sweden and it’s pretty scary not knowing how sick you might get.

For the data heads: why have the government used a logarithmic scale on the global deaths graph they have shown in the last couple of briefings?
Because it means that exponential growth gets shown as a straight line. Left to its own devices a virus will spread exponentially, so if your line starts curving downwards you know your measures are having an effect. Equally, if it starts curving upwards then something is badly wrong.

It allows you to see more clearly when the rate of growth is speeding up or slowing down. It can however also be misleading if people don't understand what a logarithmic graph is, and underestimate the number of people affected.
Talking about possibly weird graphs, it's difficult to beat this one (look at the y axis):

A lot of the chart originate from John Murdoch of the FT, he explains here why log https://twitter.com/janinegibson/status/1244519429825802240

• #9847
Yes but the thing is, I have no idea how they even managed to make this graph in the first place, except fully manually maybe...

No relation :)

fully manually

I don't think this is good news for London :/

My mum probably implemented those systems at ONS. Death tables were her speciality before she retired. Before that she was responsible for implementing the scanning solution for the 10 year census forms we all have to complete.
