But they won't even let you disable it in the settings...
If they did that, then it's ok.
But without that, they mascaraed their own personal business gain behind safety.

I forgot about that. I'd have to drain it first I think but not a bad idea. They've sorted it
"Per your request your service will be deactivated on May 2, 2020. Your account will no longer automatically renew or no additional charges will apply. If you decide to re-activate your SPOT service in the future, please do so by logging into your online at http://www.FindMeSPOT.com. "

Yeah, the fact that they have a "Cancel service" option in the Contact Us dropdown that just says "call this number" is bullshit. They're purposely making it difficult to stop their service and that's bullshit.
They did respond very quickly to the email though.

Use the virtual card on revolut and leave it blocked when you're not aware that something needs to use it.

Sounds like I need to have a closer look at what Revolut can do.

"I'm not sure I could think of anything worse than 3000mi on a turbo trainer :S
My poor Shiv won't have a solid bolt left on it by the time I've sweated through everything."His opinion was much the same.. to paraphrase.. "fuck that".

But I will be contributing miles to this fundraising appeal ride:
Medecins Sans Frontieres Coronavirus Crisis Appeal
A "Virtual" cycle around the globe (40,075 km) for Médecins Sans Frontières (UK) because we want to help the most vulnerable.A team of endurance cyclists from around the world – calling themselves the ‘League of Extraordinary Cyclists’ – have come together to ride around the globe in the month of April 2020. We will be collectively cycling the 40,075 km – starting and ending in Italy – as part of a virtual race to raise money for communities battling the effects of covid-19.
Riding in the spirit of the great adventure cyclists from history, and always being mindful of social distancing and local health directives, we are attempting to achieve this goal while simultaneously helping others.
Our chosen charity is Médecins Sans Frontières. They are already on the front lines where they can effectively help the most vulnerable. In addition to preparing communities to fight potential outbreaks, MSF’s experts are deploying trained medical professionals, sending supplies and applying nearly 50 years of experience to protect the vulnerable and save lives.
You too can help:
- £16 can pay for a surgical tunic, trousers and a pair of sterile reusable gloves.
- £28 can pay for protective plastic goggles for four doctors.
- £58 can pay for sterile gloves for 30 medics.
- £110 can pay for five protective suits to keep staff safe.
Our stories will be shared on Facebook, Strava and other media. Please donate, if you can, to help us help others in these challenging times.

Waiting to hear if All Points North is going to be on in September but in case it's not I've been looking at over events. Like the look of Transiberica but think too much climbing for me. @hippy Didn't you do Race around the Netherlands? What did you make of it? Endless bike paths don't sound that appealing...

he almost won it!

Endless bikepaths and endless wind.

I have mixed feelings about it. Guess it's probably a nice intro race for people looking for long stuff in a cycling-friendly country but it's not actually nice on a lot of the bike paths and I had my own issues mostly brought on by lack of research, complacency which means I'm a little bit meh about how the race panned out for me. But that's not a reflection of the race itself. It's probably the only even in the ultra calendar I could actually win yet I don't want to go back because I'd rather lose and see some awesome stuff than drive myself into the ground around the Netherlands again. There are some funky sights but don't underestimate the weather, realise that the Netherlands at race pace is nothing like touring it and the route conveniently misses a lot of towns so fueling if you've not investigated this stuff beforehand is a ballache. It was underfueling that fucked my race up.
Personally I'm not looking at any races because what's the point? We don't even know if they'll be running or if we can travel to them yet.

Ok that's interesting and good to know.
Yeah I know what you mean. In theory, this would be quite an easy one to get to and from if it were to actually happen but who knows I guess.

You can read a few race reports (mine being one) in the Ratn thread.

Eurostar and a couple of Intercity trains.

Really enjoyed reading that. However, can't say take it makes me want to enter.
-
• #3897
Understandable. Like hippy says, it's an entry level race. I just wanted to see how far I could push myself physically without any distractions. If your looking for more "adventure" (in any shape or form) this isn't really the race to do it.

I’ve only met you in passing but how are you not a climber!?

Those average speeds Ulrich Bartholmoes has on his long rides is just crazy:
555 @ 31.5 https://www.strava.com/activities/3415738323
420 @ 32.6 https://www.strava.com/activities/3346375057
400 @ 31.5 https://www.strava.com/activities/3461992378
etc...I really want to see the guy race again.
Got a Revolut or something without many £££ on it? If so just switch to that and let transaction fail
