Worse still: it's the opinion of a woman. Who works in a similar area.

What could possibly go wrong?
-

Less - I think based on current data in the UK (not including people who are still on ITU) only about 40% have made it out the other side of being on ITU, the rest have died. And that’s people who are of a similar demographic to Boris.

sounds like some people on here

You take that back. I don't smoke !

It's a disease that affects your ability to breath, so.... yeah people need to get on a ventilator if they're sick enough to be in ICU. It's the stuff that happens after that is the big problem.
It's an even bigger problem if you're expected to go back to work before Easter, like some people are expecting BJ to do.

I have been reading about the treatment of Covid 19 patients in Germany and how they need longer ventilation and higher pressures than with Influenza. The longer it goes on the more you are
exposed to risk of secondary infections and longer lasting damage to the lungs from the pressure.
This is not trivial at all and you don't just walk out of there in a few days. -

So if Johnson dies, then what?
(Apart from all the community groups, hospitals, people continuing to do what they're doing)

Dominic Raab as Acting PM. God help us.
-
• #9588
Yeah, though what difference does that make?
Perhaps consensus based decision making, led by scientific data?
-
• #9589
I wasn't talking about death. My point was that the procedure of mechanical ventilation in itself
can be dangerous and if done for longer is nothing that you recover from quickly. -
• #9590
Still, hypothicating Johnson's death, how does that effect what the uk does re covid 19?
-
• #9591
It was a reply to the comment about BJ being expected to return to work before Easter.
-
• #9592
Yeah, though what difference does that make?
Might not be worse. Can't be any better. Raab is, after all, the man who as Brexit SoS expressed surprise at the amount of trade passing through Dover. Hardly seems like a fact-driven man on top of his job. I'm no Johnson fan - far from it - but I find it difficult to see Raab as the lesser of two evils.
-
• #9593
Agree. I wonder how aware Raab is of his limitations. Collaborative cabinet decisions could be a good thing

Collaborative cabinet decisions could be a good thing
It could, but traditionally Cabinet has not been a democracy. The PM assesses the 'mood' of the Cabinet and decides what the Cabinet would have decided. Essentially the Cabinet is advisory.
Johnson's sole good quality, according to people I know who worked with him while he was Mayor, is that he chose competent people to delegate to, and mostly let them get on with the job. Quite possibly due to laziness, admittedly. I'm not sure Raab has even that meagre quality of knowing his own limitations.

It would be good to think that these people will still be around whatever happens to Johnson
-
• #9596
They probably are. They might well not be in the same jobs though after all this time. And Raab might well not let them get on with those jobs, rather than trying to micromanage things himself.
There's a long list of people I think would do a better job of being PM than Johnson. I think the list is longer for Raab. Needless to say, neither would be my first choice. As I said, lesser of two evils.

Apologies if a repost, Trump bans 3m exporting N95 masks to Canada. All the medical grade pulp used to make the masks comes from Canada.

In honesty, in times like this, I'm neither surprised nor inclined to look negatively on a government that is putting its citizens first. Don't get me wrong, nothing else he's done has been right but at least in taking the opportunity to screw the Canadians (which is as likely a reason as helping America), he's helping the first responders in the USA.
That said, Trump being Trump, it's entirely possible the whole order is for him, his family and his mates "just in case".

• #9599
But isn’t the point Canada will stop pulp delivery. It’s as ever short sighted.

Insightful and scary
A BBC journalist just said that 66% of covid-19 patients need ventilation within 24 hours of admission to ICU.
EDIT: Changed from 75 to 66%
