  • With this post as inspiration - https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/315270/ - I have only found limited resources on this frame so thought I’d share for others to see

Bought the frame on eBay from a thoroughly nice bloke who was the original owner.

    Photos are the eBay ad

    Cheers

  • Start of the build.... I had a record 10 groupset and some older, well used mavics in the garage.... for measuring up I had a 100mm stem hanging about to see if I could match dimensions of my other bikes, plus some nice looking cosmic rims for the purpose of measuring....

  • Lovely frame my man. Will be watching the build!

Looks like the high end frame in 1998, cost me £350 so feel it was a good buy!

  • Picked up a 105mm quill stem in a ti colour, may end up vapour blasting the whole frame so it would match better after that..... looks about the right age?

  • That Pro Chrome stem looks so good I don’t think you’ll be able to find anything nicer. Bike doesn’t have to be monochrome.

  • I agree, the pro stem is much nicer than that 3t one

  • Yea you’re probably right on that, I’ve got the pro stem earmarked for a Sarto frame I have in ‘stock’ hidden up the loft.... that’s needing forks still so one for next year maybe!!!

The groupset is a 10 speed record with centuar cranks, I’ve found to be tight fitting with clearances between rings and chainstays, it was likely designed with square taper in mind which had some adjustability....

  • I think that the crank arms and the big ring will be OK for clearance - my concern would be the inner ring which looks pretty tight...

  • It’s close but no different to my Peugeot perthus steel, that’s never had an issue with chains getting stuck, fingers crossed...

Picked up a 13/29 cassette/cable inners/front mech clamp/cinelli gel cork bar tape up from the LBS, plus some look keo classic 3’s on offer..

Groupset being hastily thrown on to make sure all things fit / look right..!

  • Wow! lovely progress, bike looks sweet!

  • Cinelli cork gel bar tape thrown on and ready for riding.... will be an all year round bike so need to Chuck the normal wheels in!

  • Road test..... apart from a dragging rear hub (oil used in there slightly too thick) and an extra split link in the chain so far so good... rides very similar to a steel frame as the old carbon forks are quite flexy

Fingers crossed it will look as good as this after winter!!

  • Lovely, top work.

  • That’s lovely, well done sir!

  • Lovely, what's the final weight?

  • I’ve put some fairly heavy duty Strada wheels on after the mavic free hub was dragging, its weighing 20.26 lb / 9.19kg without any tools/lights.

Not the lightest, but it will make the summer bike feel so much better (next year!)

  • Can’t see a picture!

Really wish I’d bought one of these when I had the chance :(

  • I’ve only even seen one other bike/frame belonging to @skullandbiscuits , the detail on the frame is exceptional with lots of tidy welds and chunky rear drop outs.. I’ll drop a message if I see another one for sale!

  • Another quick spin for daily exercise!

  • I sold mine to help fund proposing in New York. I'm sure I won't see another for sale.

  • I sold one on behalf of a mate, who probably would have just given it to me when he left the country... damn!

I rode it a few times and it was easily as plush as the Lynskey I had at the time... the 1” fork put me off, and the non replaceable dropout hanger, and the seam down the downtube but to be honest I was looking for excuses as to why I spent waaaaay more for my frame than he did his, ah well! If you see one I’m keen!

Annoyed this was too big/I didn’t buy it anyway!
