  • Yeah I've always sacrificed a bit of protection in exchange for a quiet ride, but then again I'm a pootler.

  • Leather washers

  • @aglet I did do this in the past, minus the glue and it worked itself free eventually. Might try with a strong adhesive. Loving the mono-stay shot, looks like a nice bike.

@withered_preacher hopefully if I make a neat enough job it shouldn't sacrifice protection too much. I'm not exactly Robert Förstemann either, it's only for the touring bike mind.

@turkish I do have rubber washers fitted at the moment but pretty sure the noise is coming from the contact on the chainstays as they flex. Having said that might get leather washers to totally eliminate this. Cheers

  • I had an annoying squeak / creak coming from the chainstays (some sks longboards). Creaked on every pedal stroke and was worse if I was sat down. I just squeezed the mudguard by hand to give a mm of space either side. Has stayed put and sorted the noise.

(This was after I had removed, regreased, and reinstalled the seatpost, saddle clamp, saddle rail, pedals, crank arms, chainset bolts in search of the offending creak...! Ffs).

I've already had the BB out and regreased everything, a squeaking Brooks saddle doesn't help either :|

  • Are fancy pdw mudguards really that much better than the regular options or should I stick with sks longboards?

For my CdF commuter/winter/gravel bike. 700x35mm tyres + disc brakes. Priorities are probably ease of fitting and preferably black. Any other good options?

  • Have a look at Specialized Dry-Tech fenders - fitted to my Genesis after I recovered it. The PDWs that has been on there had been ripped off by the oiks who nicked it. I think the new ones are at least as good.

  • Fitting full metal mudguards on a frame that doesn't have eyelets and with pivot brakes - you have a solution with the sheldon nuts and PDW/BLB removable eyelets but I'm wondering how you would go about the chainstay bridge not being drilled?

I'm thinking some cut helitape wired thrice around the bridge and then maybe ziptie but that solution to me is very hackeybodgey.

    Is there a sleeker way?

    I'm thinking GB mudguards.

  • .... would a King Cage universal Support bolt work?

  • How much clearance to the seattube? What about a neat spacer (block of something) that you ziptie to the seatube and attach to the guard somehow?

Did something similar on my SKS Edge ALs...

Or some guards used to come with clips for the chainstay bridge...

  • P clip around the bridge works well.

  • As stated above, either p clip or bridge clip.

  • P-clip

  • @Eeyorecore Cheers for the pic!

  • A couple of years ago picked up these Bluemels from a charity shop. They're an interesting glossy brown colour. Anyone know if they're still available to buy? I have tried all the usual sites.

  • Maybe they sat in the sun for a long time before you purchased them.

  • Clearer picture. It's clearly intentional.

  • First pic shows more brown on my screen.
    shrug

  • Can 26" 60mm metal guards be adjusted to fit well with a 650b x 47 WTB Horizon?

VeloDuo dont have GB 650b 60mm guards in stock, but do have the 26" 60mm in stock (and half price).

  • Yep, I did that, worked fine.

  • Sweet. What did you do to adjust?

  • Best mudguards to get painted ? Pdw , Honjo ?

  • The answer to most questions about mudguards is Gilles Berthouds.

But as the PDWs have a satin finish, the paint perhaps could key better / with less effort sanding?

  • Anyone got any good condition PDW full metal fenders in grey for sale?

  • I do. Narrow ones though. Let me get you deetz tomorrow.
