  • On my spin round SE London this morning I had a look at the state of the supermarket queues to see if I could pick a winner for the big shop.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Tesco’s saturation advertising to promote the safety measures they are taking in store seems to have had the effect of getting the British public to wonder what they are hiding.

New X Sainsbury’s queue was going from the front of the store all the way round the car park back to TK Maxx, Lee Green absolutely massive too and Lewisham Tesco superstore no queue at all. Even their mini stores had no queues where every other shop/garage concession I passed had 4 or 5 people waiting.

  • Realised I had moved onto the next page and was still chuckling.

  • Grim.
Was considering a couple luxury/unnecessary purchases from not fast fast but not "small business" type places but felt uncomfortable about it. Going to go with that and say no need.

  • It's tough, it is probably a much welcomed order from a small business but a nightmare for the workers at the massive online places

  • I think small business orders are fine (will keep smaller businesses going through this though time) but orders to large companies is not needed.

  • We definitely won't get any real figures here, so have to read between the lines.
Officially, we have beaten the virus and we devoted today (first day of tomb sweeping festival) to commemorating the martyrs. Lots of people out and about (it's 20 degrees and not polluted). However at 5pm we were all kicked out of parks, and apparently they've built a new field hospital in one of the outer suburbs (that has officially only had 10 cases EVER). Lots more anti foreigner stuff, including that foreigners now can't get tattoos, LOL. Second wave of the virus is coming sooooo soon (if it's not here already). I still have a green code but I know it can change colour for any reason whatsoever.

  • Get people who know what they're doing to do some research?

    Ridiculous suggestion

  • I'm in two minds about getting some fence posts, panels and a new shed delivered. If I do embark on that project I'll have a lot of waste material (old fence, knackered shed etc) which I don't have a good way of getting rid of though.

  • I think you need to balance being responsible with keeping yourself sane. We're all stuck at home and need things to do.

Can you make a pile of the waste material for a bit in a way that's not antisocial?

  • Burn it? Like, in small batches or something so you don’t ruin everyone’s day

  • Please don't ever suggest burning old fence panels or wooden sheds.

The old way of preserving thin section timber was tanalising.
Planks of timber were loaded into a thick steel walled pressure chamber and a vacuum applied.
The solvent-based tanalising liquid was then pumped in, with (hopefully) all the microscopic airholes in the timber filling with the tanalising fluid.

The pressure chamber was then returned to normal air pressure and the timber unloaded, allowing the solvent to evaporate.

Quite apart from the solvent contributing to NMVOCs, (non-methane volatile organic compunds), adding to urban smog,
the active material in the tanalising liquid was copper chrome arsenate.
Any of those three constituents will kill you,
    and,
you and your neighbours don't need toxic smoke in the local atmosphere,
especially as we currently have the cleanest air in living memory.

Any old fence panels and sheds can be safely deposited at your local Councils domestic recycling facilities, when they re-open.

tl;dr: don't burn old fence panels or sheds.

  • Ah. In that case I’ll go one further than not suggesting it, I won’t do it again either 😬

  • Thanks.
(Realise it may be a long time
until you can drop off treated wood at the Councils facility).

  • I'd say build sheds or buy fake eyelashes as you would otherwise. It still helps to pay someone's bills.
Be prepared to wait longer than usual for your stuff to turn up.

  • What a zinger of a reply

  • anyone know what's going on in peckham? Four police vans (all full), two fire engines just went past

  • I don't know but a friend of mine said that there were a fair few BBQs, parties and gatherings going on in parks in Peckham earlier. Hopefully this was an exaggeration and they weren't on the way to "enforce the guidelines" in a heavy handed manner.

  • There's a BBQ going on in one of the back gardens near here, but it's quite quiet in terms of voices so it might be a family affair. Execrable taste in music though.

  • Who knows. One person's definition of "fair few" differs to another.

  • Just walked the dog - very briefly - in Greenland Dock Park. Never seen it so busy. No bbqs or large groups, just shitloads of smaller ones.

  • Execrable

You spelled incredible wrong now you’re not getting a sausage.

Not even the one that went on the floor.

  • Light relief...

  • I think we had the "If you want a test send a stool sample to AFD headquarters" joke here in Germany for a while.
AFD is our fascist scumbag party.

  • Police rounding up people in Burgess Park today and telling them to go home. Exercise only.

Anyone sat outside was moved on. They also sent home the 15 boys who had broken into the 5 a side pitch for a match.
