more seriously, why would you want to keep tyres that are a pain to get on and impossible to get off

Sometimes it’s that rim/tyre combo. People still seem keen to use Gatorskins.
(I’m in a similar situation and one snapped tyre lever later I’m not happy. Doesn’t help that my girlfriend has pointed out the rims are hideous plus the shop laced up shraeder valve ones for some unknown reasons so vested interest...)
