  • Had a nice zoom call with a friend of mine who is a mountain guide in Zermatt.

    I was curious to know what lockdown is like there given that the ski resort and lifts are obviously closed and them having an above average number of elite mountain athletes who tend to go on long cross country skis training sessions most days.

    In theory, these guides and athletes could be exercising away from home with zero risk to others. Risk of accident requiring rescue on a training ski is virtually zero, the same as cycling in London.

    According to Jean Paul, nobody is questioning or challenging the lockdown rules. They aren't running. They aren't climbing. The mountains are deserted. Everybody is staying at home and using turbos or treadmills where possible.

    Must say, I was expecting people to be out and about a bit more. Those guys must be going fucking loopy. They live outdoors. It's a huge change to their way of life
