Yes - it’s stuff that you really don’t want it in you unless absolutely necessary. Like a large number of authorised drugs, you can overdose on the medicinal formulation and die, should you have access to sufficient quantities.

Someone my wife knows at work was on a flight from Senegal to London and a passenger for up and tried to open the plane door in a panic...was apparently due to side effects of chloroquine.

Isn't the anti-malarial that Trump mentioned also associated with some fairly nasty side effects in some cases. I seem to have read something about potential blindness, heart failure or coma as being an issue if wrongly used.
