  • The distinct lack of messages telling people to undertake all their activities with a surplus of care, for all the reasons mentioned above, irks me. People are driving like cunce round here, even more so than normal. That is a problem with heading out on a bike, not the bike riding itself.

  • I hate the generalisation around cycling in regards to potential strain on emergency services. During self isolation DIY is rocketing up. This is demonstrably dangerous but not likely to be frowned upon, likewise driving or pretty much any other thing which brings us into contact with momentum and gravity.

  • People are driving like cunce round here, even more so than normal.

Yeah because fewer cars means they are speeding because there's no other cunce slowing them down.

  • I hate the generalisation around cycling in regards to potential strain on emergency services.

Yeah, it's fucking bullshit. I've stacked it running too and walking. Should they be banned? Why the focus on cycling?

  • I'm much worse at walking than I am at cycling

  • We must all stay downstairs. Don't be irresponsible.
Over 1000 people die every year from taking unnecessary risks on stairs. Our NHS doens't need that now.

  • Ground floor always. Because stairs are malicious fucks.

  • You would say that though. Your lot choose to live in bungalows

  • A mate of mine who makes motorsport parts has had his first official order

  • If you dont get an answer. Dm me and I'll message the guy on eilo I know.

  • Fucks sake. If we are told not to cycle, don't cycle. Just because it is your hobby and you are great at it, doesn't make it any less selfish. The whole point of all of these restrictions is that, like vaccinations, the more people comply the better it works. The more people who decide it doesn't need to apply to them, the worse it is.

  • We must all stay downstairs. Don't be irresponsible.

Stairs are often a necessity for people, they often not a lifestyle/exercise choice.

Running up and down stairs and extra hundred times a day would possibly be an irresponsible way to try and keep fit yes?

  • Exactly, and "But DIY is worse" or "Driving is worse" is meaningless. Individuals need to make their own choice. Using someone else's poor/selfish choice as justification for making your own poor/selfish choice is the opposite of social responsibility.

  • We have the space to be able to live in proper houses.

A bungalow in Oz is a smaller house you'd put your Nan in or a guest house or something near the main house.

  • Also, banning people from unecessary cycling/jogging/etc as they are doing in countries like France/Spain is a fuckload easier than banning people doing DIY in their own homes.

It sucks, but that's what's needed right so be prepared to suck it up if similar arrives here.

  • Once again, why is it ok to drive to the supermarket and not cycle?

Also, no one has told me shit. All my news is from a bike forum.

  • As I said last time, I've seen a lot of posts on medium along this vein. I normally have a quick google of the author to see what their level of expertise is. I'd be expecting healthcare professional, phd, track record in data analysis, that kind of thing.

Almost always though they're about as qualified as I am (or often less so) to comment on something like this. This one is a Growth, Product and Marketing leader at Course Hero for instance.

  • The whole point of all of these restrictions is that, like vaccinations, the more people comply the better it works.

    This.

  • More so that i get shin splints and therefore need hospitalisation and stitches for them

fuck running. running is for the undead zombies.

  • His charts are pretty.

  • You are allowed to go to the supermarket if it's something you need to do. By car, by bike, on foot, or by Sinclair C5 if you prefer. It's not cycling as a method of transport that's the issue.

Of course driving is more dangerous than cycling; larger mass, faster speed, bigger impact. The same can be said of cycling compared to jogging, and even jogging compared to walking (apart from the larger mass bit, obvs).

And yes, DIY with potentially dangerous tools is of course - dangerous.

Exactly, and "But DIY is worse" or "Driving is worse" is meaningless.

    This too.

  • Hoping someone out there conducts a study on the safest method of transport during a viral epidemic for essential workers in urban environments. Has to be cycling, right?

Indiddy. That is why the statements by Spanish officials in particular smell of gammonism. Or is that jamonism?

  • Only times I've ever needed medical assistance when cycling is because someone has driven a car into me

    This. So much this.

  • larger mass

    stop focussing on @hippy

  • I'm quite surprised that some of you guys can't spot why it's a bad idea to allow people to participate in recreational sport a significant distance from their homes.

It's not just about potential impact on health services, it's about spreading the virus and policing too.

Consider yourselves lucky that we're allowed out at all.
