The big Tesco Extra near me had sold out of potatoes, who's buying all the damn potatoes? Maybe some people are planning on growing their own.

It's very weird. As far as I can tell, every other house in Ely must by now be chock full of bog roll, soap, bread and milk. But absolutely no fresh fruit, meat or vegetables which remain in abundant supply.

I was lucky to shop on sat morning and while slightly random, at least get enough food to make some things to sustain us. We are fully locked down with three teenagers so the volume of food we go through is pretty scary. Thankfully milkman is still currently delivering because we get through around 12 pints a week. Bread machine is on full speed churning through a big bag of chappati flour I managed to get.
Hopefully once we de-isolate the supply chains will have caught up because there are no delivery slots available for 3 weeks. -

Any kids with CP issues raised will still be attending school.
I know that doesn't solve the issue with the ones we know about but it helps.

With the lack of fibre in their diet they won’t be shitting, so no need for the bog roll

The schools don't know yet, daughter's school has asked parents who think they will qualify to email the school. More details when the schools hear specifics from the Government.
The school also said that they will also be in touch with the parents who have children that get free school meals as the Government is supposedly putting in something to keep this going for these children (even if their parents aren't key workers).

The toilet paper is going to be a bit redundant then when everyone is shitting a brick twice a week.

There are also charities that can pay heating/electricity bills for people, they are also worth donating too.
St Vincent De Paul is one, will go find more and post lateron. Will make some drawings and add them to a sweepstake for work and ask people for cash.
(stuck at home anyway)

I've been good and been eating a lot of tinned beans.
They soften the brick bits and help keeping people out :p

Yeah, was busy ranting at missus' work colleague and their shoddy attention to detail.

Holy shit, I've had the pleasure to listen to work calls/skype meetings/ my girlfriend has to attend. I know these are weird times but don't waste an hour skyping about stuff that could be explained in an email.

Agreed, but this is only the beginning. We're struggling a bit working from home while taking care of a toddler because daycare is closed. I'm the kind of person that would say screw it and do it the next day, but she just works an hour longer at night to "make up" for that lost time.

and to think I heard people saying "I guess we'll find out what could have been an email instead of a meeting". That shows them.

True on the one hand, on the other hand in these times specifically it might not be the worst thing to spend some time on some kind of 'face to face' interaction (even when it's only through a screen). Had a work meeting this morning on Teams which probably could have been done via email too, but it was kind of nice to see and hear people. Left me feeling a bit more 'connected' to others as we had been when working together before, and less isolated.

The joys of being veggie.
Veggie household here too. The vegetarian section was no more either so no tofu etc and even fresh produce section was decimated*. Sounds like I'm exaggerating but I'm really not. Madness round here.
*and not just reduced by 10%

Groceries will be restocked. Rumours flying around about imminent lockdown (including on here!) are not helping. Go get the groceries you can. Offies and green grocers are still well stocked around here (Hackney Central).
If there is a lockdown you'll still be allowed out to buy groceries. If there is a lockdown there will be a warning from the government.
Re: shop supplies. Anyone know what the situations are like in the Cash & Carries that the corner shops go to in vans themselves to stock up? I know my local only gets things like bread and milk delivered to them, most other things I see them unloading themselves from a van.
