  • I have not lived through it myself, a mate of mine said the RUC was hated, yes they beat up mostly nationalists but also beat up unionists. There were people in there that just were in it for the powertrip.

He said they all got training at school on what to say and who to call when you got lifted because detention without trial was of course great for those that loved the power abuse.

It is a very complex issue and some people think there is so little chance of prosecution it is maybe better to leave it.

But then at least establish a truth finding commission where people can at least give the truth anonymously . For some people just know what really happened can give them peace. Instead records are sealed until everyone that has been wronged is dead... (and again some people WANT prosecutions so nothing was ever agreed upon before Stormont fell)

Just cutting funding cos "our poor law enforcement" that I believe also had a horrible attitude over in England (miner strikes etc. etc) in the 70s, well no. Feels like they are just pushing this through while Stormont is super busy. Again, there are no easy answers, but this I think is just a wrong one.

Did your family ever change their attitude over time?

No idea - haven't spoken to any of the cunts in about 15 years. Norn Irish don't do reconciliation.
