  • Livelihoods = Lives

No great jump in events from government not “closing” public places so they can’t claim insurance to small business owners in huge debt followed by huge depression followed by suicide.

  • Go to local shops like Londis

Too right. Queues out the door in our local Iceland this afternoon and next door, right next door the local grocer's was empty. I the only person there.

The shelves full of loo roll, pasta, organic food section, full. The booze section replete.

What is wrong with people and their Supermarket obsession. Or are they too racist to support a shop run by a family of a different colour to them?
    Bonkers

    Support your local business folks

  • .

  • Can we move beyond this insurance thing. Its wrong.

Ans the chancellor today clarified a tone with an insurance policy that is valid, would be getting paid out.

  • I’ll be honest and fully admit I agree we should be no where near social gatherings.

I am merely playing devils advocate putting across a different view point.

    Echo chambers and all that.

  • Why are they all sat so close together in the press conference!?

  • This is factually incorrect though:

No great jump in events from government not “closing” public places so they can’t claim insurance to small business owners in huge debt followed by huge depression followed by suicide.

The chancellor.today said insurance companies will be paying out if policies are valid, regardless of not closing. And most polices are not valid as they dont have insurance against such things.

  • So you have never seen businesses go under, owner in depression followed by the latter?!

  • Dealing with the epidemic is so time critical, we can act now and need to.

Support is emerging so we can stay at home, use it

  • I’ve now read the support situation.

This wasn’t the case until very recently and now retract my statement in this situation.

  • I think we are talking at cross purposes.

You said the government needs to order business to close to they can claim insurance. I said that is incorrect, the chancellor today stated insurance companies will be paying out on valid policies with the current stay away guidelines.

The problem is, most polices do not cover such events.

  • As I’ve stated up thread I’ve just caught up with this being the case.

    Certainly wasn’t last I checked.

Guess it just highlights to me scenario changes hourly...

  • Just heard on the tv that ibuprofen has been removed from the NHS list of approved painkillers. No he’s evidence but a suspicion it could make it worse.

Has this been shared yet? 50-70% drop in restaurant bookings, walk-ins, and regular diners across every country where Open Table operates.

The industry is hurting bad. This has happened in 8 days.

  • Insurance companies have stated that the government has said enough to trigger payment of claims for loss of income due to closure due to pandemic but not many have that level of cover.

  • Has been posted several times now:
    https://www.bmj.com/content/368/bmj.m1086

Does seem to be evidence in sample cases or at least very similar diseases to Corona

  • That's what I'm saying.

  • Sorry. There’s so many posts it’s impossibly to keep up.

  • No need for apologies :)

  • It's ok, it's the Internet, no-one reads anything before posting.

  • Unfortunately my experience of independent shops round here is they tend to be frequented by customers who give the fresh produce a good squeeze before deciding which to buy.

Remember seeing someone buying bread and taking care to get a loaf their literally grubby hands hadn't been on.

  • I can only speak for my business but our retail sales are -70%

  • All but essential shops closed here in Belgium from tomorrow noon on. No social gatherings allowed. Social distancing mandatory in ALL companies (if impossible, companies must stop activities), no unnecessary travels abroad,... Ooof, it's getting serious here.

  • Shit Dov. That's grim.
Is that over the last few weeks?
