Mortgage holiday. Okay, great for the homeowners, what about the renters?
-
• #4829
Yes, but what has changed since the budget? Fairly obvious that this would all be needed then. They look like a bunch of reactive muppets.

Germany has 7,200 confirmed Coronavirus cases and 17 deaths, we have 1,950 confirmed cases and 67 deaths. Is this just a difference in counting or are they doing something we should be?

Just better testing, same as South Korea.
-
• #4832
Confirmed cases numbers by testing are usless. Dont look at them.
-
• #4833
We aren’t testing people with symptoms unless they’re hospitalised from my understanding
They may be doing more testing -

The scope of this bailout is huge.
Staggering.
Mortgage holidays is good. But what about renters...
-
• #4836
Yes, more testing..so trying to estimate real number of cases, if Germany and UK have the same mortality rate, there should probably be about 30000 cases in the UK now..

Mortgage holidays is good
Good in principle but fairly sure there should be a minimum of six month moratorium on all debt repayments, personal and business. Three months wont do a thing
-
• #4838
For sure. I expect it to 'grow' in scope. It also does not include renters who are perhaps in more precarious positions.

Haha sky news guy with a banger question.
Does the buck stop with you and do you take responsibility for your father?
-
• #4840
Yeah, that would be a smart move... will suggest.

Eurozone init. We were never part of it. We can print our own money and set our own rates.

[Update: Facing an avalanche of bad publicity, Labrador announced on Tuesday that it would grant royalty-free licenses to companies developing COVID-19 tests. The company also claims it didn't know that BioFire was working on a coronavirus test when it filed its lawsuit last week. The company seems to be going forward with the lawsuit.]

Can you hold of on those redundancies now?

On another note, the local area has started help groups to get food for people.
What is an effective grassroots approach to epidemics, aside from that?
We know people in hospitality and others will be on unpaid leave, so I think we all need to donate like mad to foodbanks (of course), homelessness charities and of course other charities that also offer money to pay for heating/electricity.
But since it looks renters won't get relief (perhaps the government optimistically hopes landlords will suspend the rent as they don't have a mortgage to pay, but in the case of some companies / asshole LL that won't happen) I wonder if perhaps a money pool is also needed?

• #4845
Unfortunately not. Revenue is still impacted. You can't take on debt to pay staff to do nothing.
-
• #4846
No. Which is the question a reporter asked. It doesnt work.

Looks like boris has an earpiece in actually.

Rent holiday would be fucking sweet but will be surprised if it happens.
Already used up sick allowance for previous 12 months due to chronic condition so I'm on statutory if I get it tho...
-
• #4849
You have sick allowance?!?
-
• #4850
public sector, 6 months full pay, 6 months 1/2 pay, then zero pay.
it's not an "allowance" like holiday allowance is though.
Agreed, they took the lead from Macron.
