3 chains in 2k km wtf? 6 sets of brake pads? No idea of the terrain but it seems like a lot
It has been extremely wet and quite cold. Conditions that eat brake pads.
Ugh realised how late I was to this party. Carry on!

This piece of shit
Since when was this thread about nice bikes ;-)

I want that quite a lot

I think given the choice between new Salsa Stormchaser and Trek Crockett I would go for the Trek- whole bike for the price of the Salsa frame only
-
• #10631
Salsa - bare spendy, poor spec.

Whats the recommended tubeless tyre for an arkose, 80/90% road 10/20% canal paths/ other
I see Merlin Cycles have some discounts on the G-One allrounds and Speeds -

If I like the idea of a singlespeed gravel bike with daft clearances, slackish head angle and a fair few mounting points, what options are already out there that aren't quite as spendy as the Stormchaser? Charge Plug Grinduro?
-
• #10634
The All Rounds have had some changes recently, I’m running the Addix compound version and they seem to be more resilient than before, would recommend

charge grinduro has good clearances and fairly light, but no mounts on the fork despite it being aluminium.
really fun bike to ride. the only bit I'm not so keen on is the ebb for chain tensioning. -

Ta!

• #10637
Get a slick if you'll be riding on hard surfaces, anything else you'll have a bald rear in no time. Plus it's faster
-
• #10639
Tell you what though.. I've done approx 400km on a new (~3 weeks ago) set of G-one speeds, 90%tarmac 10%other and have had three punctures. Roll beautifully, feel fast, shan't be buying again. Next attempt for similar duties will be the all-rounds. Though perhaps I've just been unlucky

Fustrastingly Charge seemed to have gone out of business (much time their promise of releasing in 2018, and again in 2019...).

They seem to have released a load of awful new saddle colourways?
-
• #10642
I gather it was a case of resources needing to be focussed elsewhere, and that Charge will get some love again soon. No idea what 'soon' means, and it's a third-hand rumour, but still

I got 1 puncture in 2 years with these tires. Excellent tires, would buy again

Yup, like the Cannondale graphic design.

I had lots of punctures with g-one speed. Then went tubeless and it's bliss. Only punctured one time, when my rim was damaged by a pothole.
-
• #10646
yea i've been riding the g-one speed since it was the s-one (in 30mm, 35mm, and 650bx50mm) and have never had a non-sealing puncture. more 200000 km on 'em.

wtb byway if you run 650b. 700c should be available too at some point in the future.

i got in touch with charge after they teased their renewed steel plug range back in 2017 and they said they were looking for a new assembler and were also diverting attention into the fabric brand.
that was back in 2018 - have they released any new product under the charge brand since then?the bikes on their website are still the 2017 models.

I remember their enthusiasm about completely redoing their line up, looking at new factory (or tooling) to make their new bike that admittedly look pretty good.
Bike shops was waiting for them to announce but end up giving up on them, good choice as it’s now 2020.

Speaking of charge plug grinduro here's mine in 650b commuter mode:

Sounds like you need to do a ride where you go through a set of pads by mid ride.
Sintered FTW these days, they’re much more resilient.
