We drove from Geneva to Chatel with no sign of closure, however it may be different going the other way- but our transfer driver didn’t think so. Of course, everything may change at short notice. Chatel ski region is open, but you can’t ski to Avioraz as the Swiss side is shut, so all lifts that would allow you to ski down into Swiss territory are shut.

Swiss borders are not closed, except with Italy.
I think Châtel will be closed from Monday if it’s in line with the Swiss government regulations. -

The petit chatel lift is only running the very bottom part, as the upper parts would allow access to Swiss slopes, the Super Chatel lift is working and you can ski currently. If they shut it on Monday we could go across to Avioraz, if of course that’s not also shut.

I'm booked for Avoriaz on April 2nd, although I have already come to terms with it not happening. I might spend the refund on a new biek

There’s a number around my first pair in the mid 80’s were led and right and I seem to remember a ski with a different performance profile when worn each way round.

Will I be allowed back in to Switzerland?
As things stand at the moment, yes. The only reason we're not popping over the border to go skiing tomorrow is because @Cycliste's work have imposed a 14 day quarantine period on anyone visiting France. And as she's currently in charge of the company's coronavirus response and strategy, she's supposed to set a good example.

France just closed stuff? Latest I heard.

How big of an effect will the French shutdown of everything non-essential have on these areas? If the lifts are still running but there’s nothing else will the areas be able to run properly?

Literally everything is shutting tonight, we have to leave tomorrow morning. The hotel is allowed to shut tomorrow to give us somewhere to stay tonight.

Jeez. Sounds exactly like Austria then. We were lucky that our trip ended today so didn’t have too much worry about not having a place to stay thankfully. Though really felt for all of the locals who are definitely going to struggle I imagine

Well, we had to try.

Glad we went last week instead of the one coming. Spoke to a few locals the other night and they were all worried about closure.

France is all closed down. 3 vallees any way
-
• #1247
yup guess that's really the end of the season. Vail just closed all their resorts as well.
Other companies doing the same world wide -

Interesting, Homewood in Tahoe are remaining open. They are really small, so I guess if they closed it might put them at risk of closing forever

Hopefully as your hotel is shutting you can get the cost back from them or insurance. I'm bailing out cos no lifts but in theory I could still stay the week but chose to leave early so accomodation won't refund, and FCO haven't said not to travel to France so I'm not optimistic about insurance covering unused accommodation or additional travel. Le sigh.

Our hotel just charged us the €205 for last night- they were very decent. Transfer company changed their pickup to 10am this morning without comment, ski hire place voided all charges immediately.
BA on the other hand have charged £200 to change the flights.
Is the Swiss / French border closed? I can't see anything definite.
They've just closed the lifts here (in Switzerland). Morzine is only an hour and half away. Will I be allowed back in to Switzerland?
