I was just wondering about buying a thermometer... I know when i have a fever but would it be useful to know how high (eg to relay info over the phone) or to know what direction it's heading in?

Of course it makes sense to have a thermometer. Get one if you can, just don’t buy 10 or something.

Please let me know if you are actually able to find one. Amazon and every supermarket I’ve looked in has been sold out.
On eBay, people are selling £40 thermometers for over £120. One sold for £450!

Yes but unless you are vulnerable it shouldn’t be too much of an issue so try not to stress.
It’s just another example of how unprepared we are as a society though.

Possibly but what will you do with that information?
Bit like everyone panic buying thermometers, you don’t need a thermometer to know you are running a fever.
