  • Your route over Rooley Moor Rd is also grav grav/cobbles

  • Most of us will prob be on 25s with rubber seeing a fair amount of winter road so I don't want to tempt fate.

Ditto, my track bike only can accept 25mm, and I wanna do it on that bike.

  • Yep that’s done on purpose, I should be adequately equipped to deal with that. Quite looking forward to that bit!

  • All road, still scenic but maybe a bit punchy at the end? I'll try and find a flatter run back to Macc tomorrow... [removed map to avoid confusion]

  • Good stuff!

  • Some hard climbs hard at the end there - part of Mudhurst Lane is brutal.

If people aren’t feeling masochistic, you could avoid them by turning right on to the A6 at High Lane and then left onto Middlewood Rd to go back through Norbury Hollow and Pott Shrigley. It’s flattish with the odd short climb.

  • Yeah, I thought it might be a bit much, but there are some nice views. I couldn't remember if there was a gravel-free route through Lyme park? I'll double check on streetview and replace it with one of the routes from Marple>Bollington from here later: [removed to avoid confusion!]

  • @edscoble are you still planning on riding across?

  • The descent from Lyme Park through Hase Bank is a stony mud/gravel path. Doable on a road bike but jarring.

  • That's the one!

  • Cheers for the route help. I have done a small tidy and we have a version that goes through Lyme NT and one which doesn't. I can't say which might be more demoralising - those bumps with beautiful scenery or a flatter route with a slightly grim looking approach to Macc. I think we'll decide on the day. I have also routed us to the Cafe Adventure in Hope. Good bike parking, looks legit and with fewer opportunities to fanny about and sit in a pub moaning about how hilly the fuckin the Midlands are.

People who are riding please can you grab both these routes before the weekend:

  • Maybe. It’s very weather dependent, as I just happen to be in Sheffield on that weekend

  • Did this yesterday. Remember to take a gum shield if riding it.

  • Why, you have me worried now!

  • There's gravel, meaty water bars and old packhorse slabs to negotiate (as well as the cobbles). I've always had fun up there but imagine it'd be slow going on a road/cross bike, especially if the weather's bad.

  • Look like carbon brake pads it is.

  • Okay, will exerce due caution then. If the weather is not on my side I was planning on using Market Street / Burnley Road on the East.

  • Yeh forget the Lyme park route on 25 mm tyres and fixed bikes. Bad enough on my full on cross bike, especially downhill which you’ll be doing

  • The HDITP (w Lyme NT) route posted doesn't actually go on any off-road paths within Lyme Park, all good tarmac roads not within the NT site. Granted the extra climbing probably won't be welcome by that time.

  • @peet yeah I think he was referring to the route that cgg had drawn up for himself. confusing!

  • Ah ok I see now! That’s a good amount of climbing from Marple to macc! I do that as a ride by itself on gears and it’s tough!
Hats off to you men... #preyforlfgss!

  • First route looks good! I'd suggest we stay on the B6049 at around 26 miles until we get to Bradwell? Although I like little lane and a hair raising drop, the b-road looks like a nice flowing #fixiefriendly descent.

Not local. Could unintentionally be suggesting our ultimate doom.

  • Yeah that was my own not-a-local tweak. That b road just looks meh and the street view looked like OK tarmac so put it in. I see what you mean about the descent tho.

  • That b road just looks meh and the street view looked like OK tarmac so put it in

My bad. I've never knowingly ridden the road and felt the same as you so suggested it.

  • @alialias @jaeyukdapbap Ok I've made a little 'compromise' on that route, sort of bounce on and off that B road but takes a way into Bradwell that still has a noticeable descent but hopefully won't have the white-knuckle-descending-Whitedown feel
