  • yeah, it seems like they've stopped doing them. Maybe thats why the deal was on?

  • so this looks good right? but cant help think that a bigger or even no seconds dial would look even better. thoughts?

  • The window shopping market can't be damaged

Unless you maybe take the French phrase for it literally (faire du lèche-vitrines)

  • I was window shopping Saturday.
Turns out I like the Tudorbblack bay S&G, with the gold (champagne?) dial

Didn't get a chance to try it on.

  • Personally I think it looks good with small seconds but it's sat too high and close to the centre. Should have stuck "Automatic" under Longines and moved the small seconds lower down.

  • They couldn’t make it any lower because of the ETA movement they were forced to use. The fundamental problem is that the watch is too big. Apart from that it’s quite nicely done but the newer sector dial remake they’ve done is much nicer IMO (and more accurate to the original).

  • Turning 30 next month I had decided some time ago to furnish my aging self with a Rolex to replace the Apple Watch and be more “suitable” for a shirt and tie worker now.

Obviously been looking at the used market but thought I’d enquire on the waiting list for a submariner that I’ve fallen in love with.

    6 years.

Knew it wasn’t a short list but 6 caught me I must be honest.

  • Honourable shoutout to this Heimdallr 62MAS homage.

    The good:

    1. Sapphire crystal
    2. Ceramic bezel w/ lumed pip
    3. NH35 movement
    4. Very good finishing on case and dial, finishing on hands goes from brushed on top and chamfers down into polished
    5. $220 ($190 w/ mineral)
    6. Lume
    7. Logo/ text on dial execution inoffensive compared to usual Chinese homage/ copy fare

    The bad:

    1. Bad bezel alignment
    2. Rubber strap feels a bit plasticky (not a wealth of experience to compare it against)

I've read their after sales service is, like many Chinese vendors, very responsive and diligent. Early versions having 300m water resistant printed on the dial and 200m engraved on the case back.

  • Get one for your 40th

  • I clearly joined the list... that length of time should be fine...

  • Get a Steinhart in the meantime :)

  • They still have a list?

  • Was looking at these this morning actually, and the Willard. Seem decent for $150...

I paid a little over list for mine, it was less than 30 days old when I collected it.

I don't like the situation, but it's a case of hate the game really, and the dealer I bought it from said he'd buy it back for the same price in a year so at least you are insulated from depreciation due to said game.

Be interesting to look at what the likely price rises are going to be over six years vs paying overs now.

Anyway, I reckon you can find one for a reasonable price for your 30th birthday if you are so inclined.

  • Get that titanium / ceramic omega I posted up thread. A nicer watch than a sub that you can buy at retail for less money.

  • Imagine spending £8270 on a watch that retails at £6300. Man. Don't get me wrong. I get it. I get why people want a sub. But man...

Win-win in your situation @Dammit - I hope you got that in writing!

  • Case and bezel look surprisingly good, as do the hands and the date window frame. But the proportions of the markers and dial are all wrong. Looks squashed/puckered. Hilariously cheap though.

  • Pay overs, or buy five to six Tudors, or an Explorer and a Milgauss, then wait and see if the Rolex waiting list fairy visits you in the next twelve months.

It’s not pretty and you have a choice, but one of those routes is significantly cheaper and faster than the others.

  • Wanted to try a Speedy 57. Went to the local jewelry store which didn’t have the 57 available (only online) but did let me try this model instead as it was the only Speedy available in store.

I wasn’t impressed at all, a bit disappointed really, especially considering the price. I’m sure now I’ll need to see and try the 57 in real life before going ahead on that.

  • Do not pay retail for a Speedmaster and you'll be happy. The current retail is a joke. I paid $2750 for mine and I still thought it was a bit much. Sarry ¯_(ツ)_/¯

It's cool and stuff, I love a proper hesalite Speedmaster, but if you wanna be wowed by the watch on your wrist, a Speedmaster isn't it. IMO.

  • Wasn’t planning on full retail, especially considering the price of the 57.

With other products, whatever you can find online is a pretty clear indication what to expect. With watches however this is definitely not the case. I need to see it on the wrist.

  • if you are thinking about an Omega purchase speak to ejay2.0. He will keep you right.

  • Got one of those to see if I'd like the real one. Looks like I do. But yes, the Chinese version is really nice for the monies.

  • Yeah I've been in touch with him before.

I promised to come in for a chat next time I'm around. I need to keep in mind that for the time being it's more interesting for me to purchase in € than £.
