In English public toilets around 1919 the soap was often fixed on a spike on the wall cos so many men had lost an arm in battle.

It was reported on the BBC from today’s WHO update, on the live text stream. I’ll see if I can find it.

It's here (at 17:36): https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-51716375
But as suggested it is a percentage of reported cases, which may not be the same thing as the actual mortality rate as many mild or asymptomatic cases will not be counted.
"
[ Breaking] Covid-19 fatality rate for reported cases is 3.4% - WHOThe head of the World Health Organization (WHO) says about 3.4% of those confirmed to have been infected with the new coronavirus have died - which would suggest a much higher fatality rate than seasonal flu, at less than 1%.
However, the figure is based on the number of deaths recorded worldwide so far, relative to total confirmed cases - and there are likely to be thousands of coronavirus cases that have not been recorded.
Death rates may vary from country to country, too, as some are better at spotting the milder, harder to count cases than others.

I needed some food. Tried to order online and none of tesco, sainsburys, ocado or waitrose had any delivery slots for the next 3 days.
Went to the big local sainsburys tonight. Shelves are almost bare - particularly tins, pasta, bog roll, veg. Lady on the till said it had been busier than Christmas all day with massive queues. -

Issue of races being given the go ahead in Italy and France raising it's head and Race Radio predicting teams might not turn up. Some old duffer chimes in "he can't make the sportive."
Stop the bus! The season's fucking ruined, big Brydo can't swan over to his all inclusive Tuscan antipasti festival this year, nightmare.

Australia's panic buying of bog roll is excellent. Complete madness.

Back in the late nineties some toilets still had those, like some at SOAS and Senate House if memory serves.

A friend of a friend of a friend heats his house and generates most of his hot water thanks to the free papers like the Metro and the ES.

How does he do it?

Passivehaus generally so well insulated with shredded paper and fraught free that the activities of the occupants keep the house warm.
There'd be a lot more vegans if these fucking lunatics shut the fuck up for a while.
Every time PETA posts, god throws a brick at a squirrel.
