  • Here's an outdoor ride, HR apparently at a fairly consistent 150bpm

  • It's that or Body Coach HIIT

  • I had this issue for a while. Turns out the fix for me was to wear the stap a little lower on my chest.
I try to line up the top of the strap a touch below the bottom of my sternum. This means the two sensors are sitting on my ribs rather than the base of my pectoral muscles (the movement/contraction of which might have been confusing the HRM previously).

  • Yeah I've tried that, still get very similar results

  • The troughs during intervals makes me think it's interferance or conflict with something indoors. Your outdoor ride looks more normal so what else do you have chatting away indoors?

  • Other than HRM and power meter, nothing really. I'm the opposite end of the house to the WiFi router, so unless my fridge is kicking out 2.4Ghz radio signals, I don't know

  • Tried unpairing it and repairing? Mine always needs to be redone after battery swap.

  • Multiple times

  • Have you tried a different strap? Could just be fucked.

  • What head unit/ device/ watch are you using?

It’s a long shot but if you are using a watch with optical hr then it might be writing that (poor quality) data to the file rather than your chest strap data. I had a similar problem where i did several rides without realising that my chest strap was out of battery because when one hr data stream cut out it automatically switched to the optical hr data. I only noticed when i got a similar flatlining hr graph during intervals.

  • One other thing to do is to clean the electrodes as the salt buildup can affect them - certainly happened a few times on my tickr, but never on my old Garmin one...

  • Have tried 3 different straps, including the Wahoo one and a Polar one. This happens on both a Wahoo and Garmin head unit.
And I've rinsed and washed the straps regularly.

  • Yeah, it's not the straps. It's something common to the setup though - what computer are you using? ANT+ or BT?

  • Mac with Ant+ dongle at home, but even connected via BT to my Wahoo it does the same thing

  • 3 HR straps connected to two different output devices using two different protocols all do the same thing?

Have you tried taking all three straps outside, pairing one while sitting and then standing up and running on the spot, remove paring, repeat with the others, just to see if they do respond away from your computer, house, etc? Otherwise it sounds like the factor is you.

Are you wearing the straps so the sensor pads are on your chest and the buckle is at your back or side? People laugh when others put helmets on backwards but could you be putting all three straps on the wrong way?

  • Give the straps to someone else and see if they change HR values

  • Bring them here and I'll stare at them until they start working.

  • Otherwise it sounds like the factor is you

Honestly tried everything, logically working through what it might be, so I think it must just be that my body is the wrong design for any HRM

As a side note, one time I had an ECG due to the arrhythmia, the paramedic said he'd never seen anything like it on the printout. Like someone had dropped a pen in an earthquake. So it's probably that.

  • I’m no hippy, but 13w gainz in my ftp from today’s ramp test.

My weedy 1min peak power from past 3 tests were 326w (end Oct), 325w (end Nov), 328w (end Jan). During that period I wasn’t doing any structured training just enjoying some cross racing after an autumn marathon. During feb I’ve started to get back into half iron distance tri training, mostly based around a polarised approach and building up base miles on the bike. 1min peak today was 345w (*0.75 = 259w ftp) which is pretty much exactly where I was at best last year so pretty encouraging for now.

  • Arrhythmia wouldn't explain none response like that though would it? It's just non-standard beats. Have you got anyone else to use the straps?

  • Feels good going up.

I'm now at Death's door though with a cold manflu so all the gains were pointless.
Fucking diseased bastards! Never getting the Tube again.

  • Able to try a optical monitor like a Polar OH1+? Might be a better option than an HRM strap that works via the electrical signals.

They can go around the wrist or upper arm (or even the temple if you use them for swimming).

  • I'll attach them to my wife later, see if that fixes things

  • I'll attach them to my wife later, see if that fixes things

So, works fine for her. Readings go up and down smoothly and with no lag. Must be a problem with me then
