  • Ha! Wow.

Taxi driver last night nearly chucked us out when he realised west just got back from Thailand. Not even China, jeez.

  • 2 weeks compulsory wfh at work for us if we've been to China. Should've taken a day trip whilst I was in Malaysia

  • Side effects of facemasks; saw the police nabbing a gang of about 6 female pickpockets on Museum Street all in masks on Friday night.

  • 2 weeks unpaid leave if you've returned from China at my place.

  • How is that legal?

  • With the masks, I guess with Coronavirus being asymptomatically contageous, people might be wearing masks thinking it's stopping them catching it but they're already infected so it's actually stopping/cutting down them spreading it. So a bit of panicked, uneducated mask wearing is perhaps not the worst thing in the world.

  • You'd get your statutory sick pay surely?

  • It isn't being applied retrospectively, it's for those who go to China after the new policy was implemented.

I'm also not convinced it's legal though.

  • From my experience living in SE Asia it’s mainly a lack of trust amongst the population. Most of them know when to wear a face mask (when they’re not feeling well) but as soon as a colleague has a sniffle they sling em on.

I won’t get into the casual xenophobia that triggers most of these reactions.

  • This form of quarantine isn't sickness. If they become sick during it then statutory sick pay would kick in.

  • Do any statisticians or virologists know whether the total infected now constitutes a big enough sample to draw conclusions on the mortality rate?

Looks like it’s going to be lower than Sars.

  • Statistically it looks like you’re far more likely to recover than die. Supposed to be going to HK in April. I strongly suspect this will have blown over by then.

  • Still too early I think.

  • Just to elaborate on that, with the huge caveat that I know as little as most people.

China is currently reporting that the recovery rate, the proportion of people who have fully recovered after being infected, is only about 6% to 8% while there are currently more people in serious or critical condition than have recovered.

I from what I've heard, it will be several weeks until there is enough data to know what exactly is going on.

  • You have to feel sorry for that bloke who went to Singapore and unwittingly infected a dozen or so mates in France and has now taken out a GP practice.

  • Funny that he then went to a ski resort called Les Contamines.

  • Apparently he went to a yoga class for cyclists so there's a teeny tiny chance he could even be ON HERE.

  • Will the forum be disinfected?

  • Will the Chinese govt make a concerted effort to stop the trade of creatures like the Pangolin now?

  • Pokemon bites back!

  • Didn’t he wipe out at least four people from a pub in Hove too?

  • Not sure if pea, but found this interview published Feb 6 to be informative

  • The poor guy is officially a "super spreader"

  • I know right! It’s like being “Patient Zero”. It’s never good to be in common parlance when it comes to contagion.

  • Was walking past the royal free yesterday and there was a small group of journalists and film crew setting up. Apparently one of the infected lads from the french bender is in there.
