  • Not much going on bike wise due to other things in life but what has been super annoying with both the wife granny bike and the little Poni cargo/shopper is wheel flop. So I finally got round to fitting steering dampers on them. Hardly the neatest of jobs but seem to work. When I finally get round to welding some more rack tubing + disc tabs (or rollerbrakes) + electric assist on it, I'll fit a proper spring mount. Also fitted a double kickstand and got rid of the horrible steel bars and crappy grips.

  • Really like the 24" one for shopping and pootling!
How effective do you find the steering damper? Finding out that the cargo bike I've built has a tendency to shimmy a little with some weight on the front, when I take my hands off the bars. Something to help reduce that would be useful.

  • Well my problem was wheel flop causing the bikes to tip over when loaded, the spring seems to prevent this. No idea about their effect on shimmying I'm afraid.

  • I just connected the dots, I'm following your builds of course! Your cargo bike looks similar to an omnium mini which my friend had for a while, it shimmied very easily unless loaded. So it wasn't very good for everyday cycling, but very good at hauling. YMMV but it does sound similar.
