  • Ok, so I bought this https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/342958/ .

It arrived yesterday, perfectly packed, and I resisted opening it until I could see it in the light. It’s actually even nicer than in the photos on the For Sale ad, the midnight blue is gorgeous.

So, the build will be either 10s Record with standard wheels or SRAM Red with destickered Cosmics. I’m leaning towards the latter as it looked so good with deep sections but think it would be classy with regular wheels.

Anyway, a low quality photo to be going on with (saddle may or may not be a placeholder)

  • I’m also tempted to fit a slimmer stem to complement the slender head tube better (although the Enve one is colour matched)

  • 10 speed red and shallow carbon would look great on this. For a slim stem my go to is always Kalloy Uno. Cheap but very clean looking (graphics come off by looking at them funny) and surprisingly light. Id be tempted to go semi weight weenie on a frame like this. Wouldnt be unreasonable to get it the right side of 6.5kg

  • Thats so good! Please keep it classy. No COSMICS please!

  • Agreed, just mocked it up with the Cosmics and it looks like an absolute turd!

  • I’m not at all convinced about bars and stem either

  • Rad, I was very tempted by this.

Do 11 speed record by putting an 11speed ratchet into the 10 speed shifter, then use all 10 speed ti parts minus crankset

  • Lovely frame. 2nd vote to keep it classy, I'd fit classic drop bars too. 10s record would look so good on this.

  • That would be brilliant. How difficult is that do?

  • Needs gumwalls

  • Same difficulty as rebuilding the shifter - not massively difficult but a bit fiddly. If you like working on bikes and ride campag it’s worth the time learning.

You’ll need to source the ratchet from a pre 2015 (I think... one without the ‘A’ marking) 11 speed shifter for it to work with the 10 speed RD.

  • @fizzy.bleach what do you think about the word ‘mock up’?

  • Good eye, Enve stems painted to match look wank. Deda Superleggero is pretty slimline.

  • Completely agree

  • Ok, so 10s Record with regular Record hubbed wheels and amber walls it is.

I’m definitely unsure on the bar/stem/post combo, thinking silver would be a more sympathetic approach

  • Superleggero stem and seatpost is my pick, the -8 degree stem angle should make the front look pretty clean.

  • It's horrible. Throw it away. In my bin.

  • Super slow on this, but starting to come together with 10 speed Record.

And then, idly, I popped on a Roval carbon wheel thinking “just the tip, just to see how it feels” and it felt/looked good.

So now tempted back towards 10 speed Red...

  • Oh, and whichever route, definitely gumwalls

  • Any progress here . Fingers crossed you went 10 speed record . Been fiddling with my new to me eddy Merckx leader over lock down which had got me thinking of road bikes ..

  • Shamefully, there has been zero progress as I remain stuck in that sweetspot of inertia between decisions mainly:

    • 10s record is so fine, even have some never used handbuilt wheels with Record hubs but
    • damn, looks fine with those carbon rims so should go 10s Red but
    • the Enve stem doesn't really work so should look at a Kalloy stem but that then means Enve post and bars need consideration so
    • I am a melvin who doesn't deserve this frame

Easy way out? Do nothing. Which is obviously rubbish.

I realise that my considerations may be a touch first world

  • 10 speed record looks great on this , not a fan of massively deep rims on steel frames ,shallow bars & slim stem work well

  • Those Roval wheels look good tho
They do those Pirelli tyres in amber wall now ,not tried them yet
