There’s 4kg of sand in a chamber at the bottom, I made little steel outrigger feet with spikes too - very stable. Handily our shabby chic / shitey Victorian floorboards hide all the holes when I’ve been fiddling with position 🤫

Matched to the cabs, but I’m already thinking about finding a second set of drivers so I can listen to them side by side.

Anybody had any dealings with Onix DNA recently?

@ChasnotRobert cheers. Is that an easy fix?

you could try plugging the turntable into another input on the amp and see if sound comes out of both speakers. it'll be very quiet, but should be enough to tell if both channels are working.
if that is the case, then a separate phono stage would be a solution. or open up the amp and look for dry joints, if you are a bit handy with wires and solder.

Gad I remember floorboards like that. Some of em I even nailed down myself, with 6" cut nails. But that was long, long ago. Nice work with the steel stand, and no doubt the sand helps.

Who recommended the Topping DAC to me a couple of weeks ago?
That was me, did you buy one?

I'm selling a cheap but decent amp and bookshelf speakers if anyone's in the market

Ah thanks. No, well not yet anyway but by all accounts it’s a hell of a piece of kit. Current thinking though is that I’d like an integrated DAC/streamer and possibly amplifier because I’m getting bored of having a collection of little boxes which need switching in the correct combination before listening.
I’m thinking about spending more than I’m really comfortable with on the Brooklyn Bridge and matching power amp for the sake of a neat solution and a big performance upgrade. I bought my gear 20 years ago at a similarly stretched level of investment and have never regretted it. Adapting that kit to make the best of streaming audio is all a bit messy, a fully integrated solution is very appealing right now.

Ah man MQA decoding on that one... but read about someone who had it the unit fail on them and no support. MQA sounds good on my Dragonfly but the D70 is supposed to sound great even without it. I dunno, one of these DACS with something like a Digione signature streamer saves 4 figures, I can live with all the boxes but spending the money for the neatness of an integrated system still appeals. I don't bloody know!

My CD player's LCD display is rather faint suddenly while the other 2 units are fine. It actually looks worse IRL than on the picture. I opened the box up and there was hardly any dust and looked all nice and clean.
Am I likely to get this fixed cheaply?
I have no idea if a dodgy unit could be used as "screen donor" for mine. Is it a big job to swap it out? (most likely not to be done by myself, just to clarify).

Have you checked it's not some kind of dimmer feature? One of mine has bright, dim and off as options.

Could anyone recommend one of those tiny amps for the Gale Silver monitors Spotter is selling? I'd be plugging a mini system into it and price and size are the main considerations.

Even better if someone has one they're looking to shift.

Definitely "wear and tear" over dimmer feature. The display until recently used to work fine. Sharp and bright. Now I'm lucky to start off with something "dimmed" then after a few minutes all backlighting is gone and it remains dark. :(
I haven't contacted any specialist service shops about it yet but I'd like it to work (ideally). -

It's relatively common on synths to have to replace them so there's a decent aftermarket supply. Mostly it depends on how good you are at taking things apart and putting them back together without breaking stuff. I've never been inside a Denon but I'm guessing being a half rack size is going to mean it's packed with electronics.
I always suspect capacitors before anything else. Capacitors going bad have been the cause of most of my hifi gremlins in the last 15 years.

I was out looking at a flat for sale yesterday and found an amazing room... Wish it was included! Some big quad electrostatic speakers, reel to reel...many amps, drum kit etc. Perfect sound cave.
Curiously the stereo was on, helping the ambiance no doubt with some jazz. But damn, those quads sounded so effortless and full range, even at low volume. Amazed. Also amazed at the price of the flat... Over One million dollars for a 2 bedroom, 90sqm flat. Fuck Sydney.

My Soundboks arrived via UPS during the week. Going to test them properly outside somewhere this weekend.
Did the outdoor test with the pair in the block car park. Absolutely insanely loud and clear. My dream of organising a rave somewhere once before I die takes another small step to reality.

Which is better:
- Speaker wire with RCA connections out of the speaker connections; or
- 3.5mm headphone jack to RCA?
Sound is going from a mini-system to an amp where these are the only two audio out options.
Gut says 1. for sound/solid connection, 2. for ease of purchase/price.
Thoughts?

Cheers.
Any particular reason?

I don't understand option 1. Wouldn't that be putting an already amplified speaker level signal into an amp?
-

What are these speakers? I think I need them
seems most likely that there's a fault on the phono input stage, or else on the output of the turntable.
