Those crown horoween look nice but I'm totally off crepe soles.
Last May I was taking out the recycling after heavy rain, wearing Clarks desert shoes. Took one step on wet York stone, instantly went arse over tit and knocked myself out when the back of my head met the stone step. Neighbours came out to see what the noise was and found me on the deck with blood oozing out of my skull.
So I'm looking for a non crepe sole option :-)

Expensive Churches
There certainly is some trading on their premium image going on but they do use the best quality materials they can and they’re about the best paying employer in town. I was talking to my mate who’s a shop floor senior about him fucking up a pair of crocodile skins and the material cost being about £600. I don’t think their margins are any more extravagant than any other top quality brand.

Understood, yes they are absolutely treacherous.

I loved my Vibergs and Whites but found them to be too much for my lifestyle and foot/back issues. Sold them on.

Like these. They are going on the list.

When did Church's get so expensive?
You're looking at £10 - £20 per month lifetime cost, including resoling and reconditioning, so not too bad.
It stings a lot when you have to buy a new pair though.

I have some but in nubuck. I paid nearer 100 and wouldn't pay near that list. They are solid made, but I've never found them amazingly comfy. Plus the white sole type is a bit usless in wet.
They're good, but not at that price.

I have a pair and love them.
I am also waiting for William Lennon to make me a pair in black oiled suede but with a pull loop at the back - a custom job.

I’m not arguing about the cost of the shoe or the VFM. I have shoes that are equally as expensive. But they’ve literally doubled in price since I last looked at Church’s - maybe five years ago - hence the surprise.

Thank you sir. Just a soft rag and no brush I guess. I’ve used a brush before and they developed this “patina” on the edges. Could do without that.

hence the surprise
I was in the same boat - new shoes needed after 7 or 8 years - and i think they went from 300ish to 500ish.
I wear crocs instead now.

Did you contact Churches about reconditioning the shoes?

My bloody coat kept getting in the way of this photo but it’s now warm enough to wear these Color 8 shell Alden’s again and my god I love them.

great shoes - always loved the colour 8 / cordovan aldens. Slightly off topic, but Do you mind if I ask what trousers those are?

Always.
The leather had split on the top of the ones in question and are not repairable.

Church's was bought by Prada a few years ago.

Yeah - established that up-thread. In the 90s as it happens.

Not the spangliest of footwear, but I just picked up a cheap pair of Weejuns to try them out, tassels, fringes and more going on - what's not to like?!
First thoughts are "fuck me that's a lot of sock showing" second thoughts are "could probably go louder on the socks"
Will see if I get on with these, dunno if they'll suit my general attire (tramp) but that has never stopped me in the past & it won't start now
