  • Yes. Didn't get on with them at all. Gravel kings seem a little better but haven't ridden them enough to recommend.

  • Might try some Teravail Ramparts or some Rene Herse expensive lads and see

  • Compass extra light were grippy but didn't work well without tubes.

  • I found Compass super slippy...

  • Yeah I’ve had slippages and loss of traction on Horizons too, never fell off though. Low rolling resistance isn’t it.

  • Fuck compass tyres

  • Maybe you should try René Herse.

  • In what scenario? dirt? cornering? wet road? standing up climbing?

  • Another vote for slippy, though not as bad as Gatorskin Hardshells.

Still ride them daily - so far the best balance I've found between speed, weight, durability and grip

  • Like I said, extenuating circumstances. Descending Chalkpit in the wet. Petrol on a corner. A slippy off-camber corner that had a few other people wobbling too.

However, I ride my other bikes a similar amount in similar conditions and have never had an issue. I feel like 47c tyres run at ~20 psi shouldn’t really be slipping out at all on tarmac...

  • I didn't see the comment above. I guess it depends - there's always some limit to grip - could it be rolling onto the sidewall when cornering at such low psi?

I slept in this morning so didn't have a chance to roll to work on these tyres. I've got them at 40psi though. Think they probably should come down to more like 30psi. 20 is very unlikely for my fat ass.

  • Fuck me those 650Bx47mm WTBs are slow! It's like riding through mud.

  • Show me data

  • I don't share my files. But I do ride my bike. Fuck me they're slow.

  • Maybe you are slow .. 🔫

  • No doubt. But the wheelset changed, not me.

  • So much for sweet spot :(

  • I found the Teravail version much gripper than the WTB.

Plus, last couple of weeks was quite slippery

  • I'll see how we go heading home. But I'm not sure I'll make it home without packing some oxygen and extra food to make it, etc...

  • So, I now have one data point.

Comparing last couple of commutes on this bike that are conveniently about the same duration, with today, for the same speed I put in an extra 50W / 140kcal today to push those 47mm bastards along.

So, you're right, they're not slow... if you put in 25-50% more work.

(yeah, yeah, weight is gonna be a little different and air density, wind, etc but they're still feel a chore compared to the other tyres)

  • +1 for them being slow

  • What pressure did you run them at They're much quicker at the higher pressures although not as comfy.

  • I'd like to put 650bx47s on my currently 700c bike that has clearance for up 700c x 32. So new wheels, tires, and
    mudguards.
From the internet and (my potentially bad) maths, I think this should work but could any kind soul confirm it, before I make an expensive mistake, please?

  • ~40psi, which was a bit bouncy, I guess comfy and didn't bottom out.

Well yeah, that's how tyre pressures work :)
