What are 47mm slicks like. I'm trying to figure out what I want for long distance bike packing.
I have previously done it on an early 80's Bianchi racer with 25s. Which fucked with the nerves in my palms and fingers. I also didn't like being confined to tarmac. So I then did it on my 90's Marin mtb with 26" 2.2 slicks which was more comfy :•) What I missed was the gearing and the speedier ride.
I havn't really ridden a modern race bike. But tried a CDF which felt like a greased lightning compared to my old Bianchi. This summer I'm doing a 2000+km ride and would like to find a new bike for this occasion. Sooo here I am looking for advice on 650b for road riding purposes.
I absolutely love my 47c WTB Horizons. They were great on a London to Bergen tour I did last year. They're pretty quick on the road and I've not punctured in over 5000 miles and they still look like new!
+1 here for 47mm Horizons. I use them on my commuter/adventure-type biek and really rate them. Pretty plush, quick enough and can handle gravel, tow paths and fire roads very nicely indeed. I have them mounted on wide MTB rims, so not sure how they work on narrower rims mind.
