A MTB would be better. Many trails could be done on a CX bike but some trails with more pronounced ruts, roots and holes could be hard work.

I rode most of the stuff over there on my CX bike - it was actually more fun than my 29’er

Horses for courses, I suppose.

I just know that a CX bike wouldn't be my first choice. Or my second. Or my third. Or... :-D
