I wore my crusty spikes recently in Essex, in a race with not much mud but a big puddle. They were much cleaner after that.
In terms of actually washing them, I don't, but I do dry them by stuffing them with newspaper.
You can put them in the washing machine but make sure it is a low heat wash. Put them inside a mesh bag too, if you have one
