  • I've not tried it as I have a basic Edge 200 on the bike but my forerunner 35 has the option to broadcast HR to other ANT+ devices. What are you using?

I've not got the watch yet, it's currently on it's way to me, but a similar setup to you really:
    FR35 and a FR910xt (Ant+ only).

  • Should have just RTFM - Looks like it does!

  • Yeah mind did this end of November. I haven’t tried it since - did you get it sorted?

  • Ok it’s a Bluetooth issue on iOS 13. You need to go to the main settings app, find the ELEMNT app, and allow it to use Bluetooth. I hadn’t noticed, it must not have been connecting to my phone for ages - I’ve been syncing routes from RWGPS via Wi-fi.

For more context the app wouldn’t even recognise the QR code. A lot of apps have been asking to use Bluetooth after the update but ELEMNT wasn’t so I didn’t suspect.

  • Are there any 3rd party apps for wahoo roam other than trainer road that'd do training plans? All the docs point towards trainer road but I'd just want to set up a few interval workouts in advance which isn't really worth the subscription.

  • Anyone got a 530?
    Or etrex touch 35?

What is the operation like on both, buttons wise on 530 and screen on touch 35?

Edit: sounds like touch 35 is useless in the rain too
Nor does it do temprature, which is annoying.

  • I used to have a 530 but couldn't get on with the buttons due to the inability to zoom out and pan on the map screen. Meant it was useless if I wanted to re route or look for alternative roads etc.

  • Yeah thay was my worry. Usless for me too.

  • Yeah it was really annoying as other than that it was spot on but ultimately that was a deal breaker. Buttons were great aside from that.

  • It's what makes the etrex 30 unless with its joystick.

I want something that will last a while day, that can then be charged at night. Maybe the 830.

I'd get a etrex touch 35x but I want temperature. Plus ant powermeter would be good

  • Yeah the 830 is the best Garmin around at the moment. All the benefits of the 1030 but much neater and smaller and a bit more affordable.

  • Bigger screen is better for looking at maps though. If you're just collecting data and want the odd look at your power/speed/whatever then sure go smaller, but if you're navigating with it then the bigger screen is much nicer and since this is the GPS thread and not the bike computer thread...

  • Having used both I found the 1030 too big and cumbersome. Granted I'd like the 830 to be a smidge bigger but I've not had any problems navigating with it and reckon it's a pretty good compromise.

  • @Saffronspokes Really? It's ~30mm longer and 8mm thicker, weighing 43g more.
    -I'm- "big and cumbersome".

    830
    1.9” x 3.2” x 0.8” (50.0 x 82.0 x 20.0 mm)
Display size 2.6" (66 mm) diagonal
    Display resolution 246 x 322 pixels
    Weight 2.8 oz (79.1 g)

    1030
    58 x 114 x 19
Display size 3.5" (88.9 mm) diagonal
    Display resolution 282 x 470 pixels
    Weight 4.3 oz (123 g)

  • Personally I did feel it was too big, but hey ho!

  • Well I'll be using my 1030 in TTs this year so maybe I'll get around to testing it against the thinner 1000 or the older, shorter 800 I used to use. I'd guess it'd be in the realm of noise.
I've been doing a lot of turbo recently and my setup is annoying me so I'll be changing the front-end somewhat anyway. It's setup for 24hr TTs so I don't really need the big light bar any more and the mount is an elevated one with more frontal area than I'd like. #csb

  • I think the main benefit (for my eyes at least) of the 830 over the 1030 is that they partially sorted out the colour saturation on the maps. So, although you lose a bit of screen real estate, the fact that I can see my intended route line and my existing route line in more defined colours (and thicker lines) makes it a more usable device at night.

People still complain about this on the 830 though (and it's still not as good as the 800 in this respect) but I can only assume these are guys who've never tried to use the 1030 at night - an experience that consistently had me stood at the side of the road trying to work out what the scrawl of washed out colours and pixel thin lines was trying to tell me..

  • You can change the route colour. Did you try that?

  • Yeah, but what was a 'neon yellow' or 'bright green' 1mm thick line on the 800 , became a 'dirty mustard' or 'sludge' 0.001mm thick line on the 1030. I once asked my wife which colour route she found easiest to see of the two- she replied... "what route?" :)

The 830 seems to have compromised with a 'fairly bright yellow/green' of 0.5mm thick (plus the rest of the map has better colour differentiation generally). This doesn't seem to have negatively impacted the battery, which was assumed to be the benefit of muting the colours so much on the 1030..

^ that's a bad example (it's someone else's pic designed to demonstrate something else) but you can see how the red, blue and black elements stand out a bit better - which is what my eyes really struggle with at night.

  • Just checking, are the serious heads choosing Garmin over Wahoo? Need to read that in-depth DC Rainmaker review but apparently Garmin comes out on top.

(sorry if this has been covered a million times before)

  • Depends on your needs

  • I don't really remember how I've got mine setup but it's got me around/across a decent amount of countries. Most my being lost is due to me ignoring my own route or finding roads don't match maps. Have you tried swapping day/night modes?

  • I really like the 830

  • This is all doing my head in, I need a new comp and was already torn between Garmin and wahoo but thought I'd go 530... Now you are all saying 830 is better.

    So confuse, much lost, wow

  • Budget =?
    Usage = ?

    Conclusion... ?
