Magnetised?

I’m on the fence about those. I like Doxa a lot, feel the current company makes some iffy decisions, but the design is ok, if lacking in character, and the price seems acceptable.
Searambler colourway (silver dial) on bracelet would be my choice, but TBH if it didn’t say Doxa on it I’m not sure I’d give it a second look.

Non-maintainable auto?
Interesting view.
I'd definitely take a quartz over an non maintainable auto, anyday!
-
• #40805
Agreed. I’d save a few pennies and get a sub 300 if I was getting a Doxa.

Yeah did you watch the vid I was responding to? Swatch Sistem 51 - fully sealed in the plastic case and self lubricating. Swatc quote a lifetime of 20yrs +, but yes, what’s the point?
-

If it's a Doxa it has to be orange I'd say.
-
• #40808
I suppose it's a price point that puts it in competition with Seiko 5 with different styling. It's a canny move I think.
I read in the FT that they produce and sell wo million Sistem51 per year. Not bad for a watch that has a movement that takes less than 30 seconds to assemble, entirely by robots.

@Stonehedge I did wear it in an x ray of my hand the other week getting a checkup for my broken finger. Is that bad? cheers

I’m amazed Cash Converters touched that because vintage Seiko is a minefield. I wonder what the seller got paid ignoring the fact they’re asking more than double the market value.
@StevePeel with reference to that Swatch one practical drawback with the chronograph is the lack of minute markings on the sub-dial, you’ll be guesstimating the reading.
-
• #40811
Ah yeah, the chronograph won’t be pushed into practical use I’m sure. I’ve got big forearms, most watches with a big enough face seem to be chronos.

Given your work, ever consider a beefy G Shock?

Too macho for my taste. I usually wear a silver f-91w but it looks a bit small. I do use a stopwatch several times a day and Casios are very convenient but then I've always got an iPhone in my pocket.
This thread has got under my skin. Very sorry to say, but whenever I saw someone with a big expensive watch I would immediately think 'wanker' but I have figured out detaching nice engineering from status symbolism and I've got the bug.

I could see this looking quite good on a strap rather than the bracelet:

That’s nice that. Like the gunmetal. I’ve pressed go on the Swatch now, Abut I can always send it back.

I like the Doxa. The £1000 tool watch market is pretty wide, loads to choose from. You could go "proper" micro brands to suit your tastes - usual suspects are Aevig (I like the Huldra for a tool diver), Magritte, Baltic and Alkin and they'll all come in well under budget.
You could prob get an Oris at the top end of the budget as they're being discounted at the mo - this one is similar to the Doxa with maybe a more relaxed vintage vibe and its on for £1,050 in a range of colours: https://www.watches-of-switzerland.co.uk/Oris-Divers-Sixty+Five-Mens-Watch/p/17600895/?utm_content=shopping___adty__pla___prch__local___stco__488___prid__17600895&utm_medium=cpc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqO3c0N3u5gIVTbDtCh33KQ1qEAQYBiABEgLIj_D_BwE
Shameless plug, but if you're after a proper indestructible toolwatch with loads of watch geek tech like anti magnetic / 500m depth / air dehumidifying then I've got a Sinn EZM3 that I still haven't got round to listing anywhere (it's a new years resolution to sort it out). It's on a strap and just over 1 year old (so just under 2 years warranty left) and has been babied - RRP is about £1500 but you can have it for £800 ono. Give me a shout if you're interested. https://www.sinn.de/en/Modell/EZM_3.htm

I was also going to suggest a secondhand Sinn, that’s a bargain. Glws

Oh that's tidy. Would look hilarious on my delicate wrists though :(

• #40822
Thanks that looks great. Out of my budget though.

• #40824
Blimey, that is a competitive price.
And yes, I do have sprinters wrists

Nice watch, I'd be very tempted if I had the cash. I've been keen on a U200 for a while, just in case I'm ever diving down to 2,000m
