Fucking grim. That article illustrates just how damaged people who work in those places become - to the extent that they'd invite kids in to see that sort of horrific brutality. Genuinely sorry you had to see that, and to live in Scotland.

No need to apologise. When I first went veggie I always thought I'd still happily eat meat if I caught/killed the animal as then I'd know I'd done it as well as I could. Thing is I have no desire to go about my day shooting pheasants or snaring rabbits etc. so naturally it never happened.
I think a lot of people (myself included) are so far removed from the actual processes involved in getting food on their plates that the cute calf in the field just isn't the same thing as the steak on the plate.
It's important to understand the reality of what's involved to make an informed decision. -

Fully agree.
I only recently became vegan after watching videos about the conditions inside dairy and egg farms (after being veggie for some time). It's so easy to never know what's it's like inside.There was a bunch of people protesting outside a local abattoir recently, I didn't even know it was there! I have a feeling the slaughter industry is deliberately very quiet because exposure to the realities of it would make huge numbers of people reconsider their consumption. The issue is, if you try to show people the reality, the reaction is rarely "I need to stop supporting this industry " and is so commonly "why have you exposed me to this footage".
There has to be a happy medium of getting the information out there, without becoming a clichéd militant vegan.

Aldi are doing some vegan Ben and Jerry’s style coconut ice cream at the moment. It’s about a 6/7 out of 10. Not as good as the Swedish Glacé stuff but it doesn’t have soya in it if you can’t eat that.

No BK said the bean burger and kids vegetarian option are cooked on seperate grills but they want the new one to taste meaty so is cooked on the regular grill

Very late to the party but this beet/tofu wellington went down well for the festivities. Strongly recommend making the beet and mushroom stuff the day before, and upping the mushrooms (~200g more than suggested).
Couldn't be fucked with the gravy, low-salt Bisto FTW.

I'd agree with 6-7/10. I liked the fact it wasn't soy, which I'm not a fan of as a milk replacement, but wanted more chocolate bits, etc.
Ccumbled some Biscoff into it instead - nailed it.

On the biscoff theme, Aldi knock off biscoff is great. I don’t actually know if it’s vegan but it has no milk in (my little girl is allergic to milk so that’s the thing I keep an eye on).
Oatly is also 25p off a carton in Sainsbury’s right now.

Always a fan of rice, grated cheese, bit of greenery and some hot sauce. The packet rices you get from Lidl are pretty good, although best not cooked in a microwave

Off the shelf fillings or diy? I'll dig out some tofu options later but BBQ jackfruit is pretty easy (skip the mango salsa in a wrap and add rice, lettuce etc.)
Curried or baked chickpeas are easy enough, falafels and other patties if you're feeling fancy.

Falafel and Hummus with some green stuff. Gosh! do a big range of 'bites' with different flavours. I'm mostly a fan of the Original Falafel but there's lots of differen't things and flavours to try out.

I’ve tried a lot of their products. But their regular burger you can buy in the shops here contains egg. 8/10. I prefer it over a lot of fastfood “real” burgers.* They do pretty convincing chicken, bacon, and saucages as well. A lot of their products are vegan, a few aren’t.
*Netherlands based, 90% plantbased, I won’t cook the stuff but ocasionaly eat meat/dairy/eggs when dining out or at friends.
Heck have the added benefit of being a relatively small and still owned-by-actual-human-people company. If that matters to you.
