I weakened and went for purple Hope bits, also.

Wheel choice is Hope Fortus 30 or Hunt Trail wide (30mm internal).

I don’t think it’s worth turning them down, and it means the bike will be ready to roll out of the box. I’m in the US from Saturday and might see what January bargains are to be had, although shipping is so poor there I might not have time to get anything as I’m only there a week.

Dibs the MT7 when you’re looking to replace this side of Easter.

Hunts are 1.8kg, Hope are ~2.5kg, I’d need a very good reason to pick Hope

Get some purple Industry 9 wheels while you're in the US

Go with the hunt wheels. Ride them as is this year then when the bearings are shot just replace the hubs with purple hopes.
The wheels on my downhill bike weigh less than 2.5kg

Gonna be really annoying when the purple is a shade off the Hope purple.

I'd go with the Hope wheels myself, then re-lace them if the weight is really messing things up.

How much of the extra weight of the Hope wheels is in the rims?

That I don't know. The Hunts are the same weight as Santa Cruz Reserve 30's.
